I’m not a big fan of pubs but I do like the Hogs Head. I remember the opening back in the late 90’s and our salon was invited. I was so eager I tripped over myself, stopped a bus then got turned away by the bouncers! When the others arrived(with my invite) they where so apologetic and then let me in. Anyways, I used to go quite regular for the jugs of cocktails & yummy bar snacks. Definitely recommend for meet ups and piss ups lol.

Plenty of space inside and out. Chilled crowd and helpful staff. A pretty good selection of beers and spirits Probably the best bar in Wolverhampton

nice pub but too busy all the time so you have to wait one hour for food and for a drink :(

A pretty decent pub in the City centre with a vast range of real ales added fairly recently. Only 2 stars from Wolves Councils Scores on the door which is a little surprising considering that it is a very busy managed house. The garden is incredible in the summer with competitively priced food and drink although not quite the deep discounts of its neighbours. Annoyingly the Touchscreen machines and cashpoint seem to be perennially out of order and the pool table is hard to get onto those things aside it’s a very nice boozer. Recommended.

While the food’s affordable and the beer garden’s sizeable and a great place to while away lunchtime with your colleagues; the incredibly slow service rather ruin the experience — it’s hard to relax in the sunshine when it’s been 45 minutes since you ordered, your lunch-hour’s almost up, and your food still hasn’t shown up. When it does finally arrive, it tastes just fine, but I’ve yet to have the time to actually finish a sandwich.

I used to use this place all the time a few years ago mainly due to the range of ales available, but don’t use very often now. I think we got annoyed by the volume of people and all the squeezing past you have to do to go to the loo or get another round in. I popped in last week and it was packed out again, the beer choice was good and prices weren’t sky high. Not keen on the music volume either. One for the younger drinkers. I noticed the menu and the prices are very competitive nowadays. Update July 2011: what a turnaround in this pub. Now due to keen prices, discount offered to CAMRA members and tremendous ale choice this has to be the best pub in wolves centre. No wonder it’s been voted the best town centre pub by local camra members it’s my first choice now!

The third competitor in Wolverhampton’s ‘tripod’ of student pubs. Whenever I go into here, it is rammed and some very strategic squeezing past people is required. It’s for this reason that I’m not such a fan, but a lot of my friends are loyal to The Hogshead so I’m sort of forced to go here. Not my first choice of pab, but it’s bearable. Prices are comparable to the Varsity/Royal London, so again, you either visit here out of habit or just follow your mates. Still, the décor is the classiest out of the three and you don’t feel so much of a student in here.

Very good pub where I used to go when i was in Wolverhampton 2 years ago. It’s a huge pub with a huge outside area to seat and enjoy the sunny days. You can eat for a correct price and drink alcool even if it’s a bit more expensive than the others closed pubs.

Yes, this policy of student discounts annoys me somewhat. If students get a 20% discount,(and I know people who haven’t been students for 35 years who have a discount card), then the rest of us are paying for it through the high prices for beer? The beer quality is usually good, though nobody behind the bar seems to understand what makes a good pint.

The Hogshead is a popular pub in the centre of Wolverhampton. It feels to me a little more grown-up and less ‘studenty’ than its neighbours, The Royal London and The Varsity. Food is very good, standard pub grub — but to quite high quality and there are good 2 for £5 offers available. There is a pool table and 2 it boxes for entertainment. Also, a large outside seating area is available for smokers. Drinks are priced a little higher than other pubs in the town, now there is a student discount card available which can bring considerable savings.
