Had lunch here a few days ago. I had the prawn, crab and chilli linguine which was quite nice and my husband had the salt beef hash which was a very small portion. Quite pricey menu but good selection.

I’ve been to The Warren a couple of times, it’s an upmarket gastro pub venue with modern décor. The service is quick and the menu is complimented by a varying specials card. The menu is fairly broad and varied, with a few seafood dishes, lamb and chicken, the obligatory steak as well as the odd off the wall dish such as pigeon. Service is prompt and unobtrusive, the setting is clean and appealing. It’s a good versatile place to go with friends and family or with your partner for a meal which is a cut above a standard pub meal but without a ludicrous price tag. 4 covers including a couple of drinks each and tip was £160

Editing this, after being further impressed on a return visit. My previous review was for four stars, but now I’m adding a fifth. We ate here on a lunchtime in the bar area. An exquisite pub, with sumptuous décor. Natural look wooden tables, and furs and well, wow! Immaculate place, with real, if modern, character, if there is such a thing. The staff were so friendly on this occasion too, beaming at us as we arrived with our two-year-old. Bar staff, management, and waiting staff were all well presented, with lovely manners and big smiles. Lots of tasty and different things from the norm were on the menu, along with a lot of specials of the day. I’d a sharing platter to myself last as a chance to try the lamb kofta and chicken & chorizo skewers along with ribs. Though it was a large plate when it arrived, it didn’t quite seem worth its £14.95, containing 4 ribs, just a measly 2 lamb kofta and 3 chicken & chorizo pieces. There was a slightly dried-out salad and lots of pitta bread and 3 delicious dips, the sweet chilli jam being incredible. The lamb kofta were overdone sadly and disintegrated as soon as I touched them. My wife’s burger looked great and our little boy’s fish and chips were marvellous as I helped him finish them off. But this time, I had their battered haddock and chips. Fairly pricey, but definitely the best battered fish I’ve had in a pub-restaurant. With great chips too. The only complaint, is that the minted mushy peas and tartare sauce came in pots barely bigger than thimbles, and only half full too. But I cheekily asked for more tartare sauce(the original portion had gone before I’d made my way through a third of my fish) and they happily brought me a new and large portion. My wife very much enjoyed her pizza. We had scrumptious desserts, and they went the extra mile placing our little boy’s ice cream in a flat dish(he can barely reach those tall glasses with his spoon). My dish was good the first but could have been better. I went back and as I guessed, I found myself editing this up with a fifth star. Fabulous décor and staff and atmosphere. Food fantastic this time, but don’t be so mean with the peas and tartare sauce, good staff of The Warren!

The Warren was refurbed a few years ago, and they have recently redone a section out with some new furniture. The décor is lovely, one of my favourites, and has a very comfortable modern feel to it. Lots of wood and glass, candles, open fires, chairs so sturdy you can barely move them, and lots of red, gold and green upholstery. The food here is always superb. It’s not cheap, but neither is it expensive. Pizzas start at around 8quid, and there is otherwise a very good selection of English pub food, pizza, baguettes, burgers and the like. No complaints from me. I’ve always found them very child friendly. I’ve visited with a lot of my friends, with children of all ages. Be warned, though, they have no proper high chairs, only booster seats that strap on to their existing chairs. These are not great for younger babies who really need sturdy support all round them. The ones at the Warren do not even really offer support at the sides. What has been more of a disappointment here is my experience of the delays in service on weekday lunchtime dining. I’ve waited 45minutes before now for the simplest of orders. They are busy, but they don’t seem understaffed during the week, so I am not sure where the delay lies. I suspect it’s in the kitchen. It happens a lot, though. On that day they actually seemed to have lost our order at one point. On that occasion I asked for, and was given, a discount on the bill to make up for it. By contrast, my most recent visit — a Sunday — was the first time I’ve been in there at the weekend, and it was totally different. My son and I arrived early for lunch — heading in the door before 12, and were greeted by an army of friendly waitresses. The food arrived promptly — about 10 minutes for pizza and chips for us to share. It was, as usual, beautifully done. All in all, it’s the décor and food that keep me coming back here. Four stars for now. Sort out the delays mid-week, and it’d be five.

Totally surprised at the change last time I went it was old and quaint. This was at least 4 years ago. Was pleasantly surprised with the new look. Went at a lunchtime meal was good only the pizza that my other half had was a bit hard and dry around the edges. Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff.

More restaurant than pub, this is one of a small chain(3 or 4 of them) in the area — there’s another in Cookham — serving a variety of food with some daily specials. Good selection wines and continental beers(rather than bitters). Good food and reasonably priced. Large outdoor area with plenty of tables.
