The RSPCA shop in Winscombe is an absolute treasure. The prices for certain items are so low that it warrants a trip from Bristol. An half an hour drive from the city centre down the A38, it’s an easy place to get to. Books are currently retailing for 50 pence for paperbacks and £1.00 for hardbacks, and their stock is enormous. They have enough books upstairs in the storeroom to fill a bookshop, and the staff are more than willing to go in search of specific titles and authors if you can’t find what you are looking for on the shelves. Chances are that they’ll re-emerge with what you have asked them to find. As they keep all the books in the storeroom in alphabetical order, it’s a quick and easy process. No-one is ever left hanging around for long. Being quite a wealthy area the clothes they get in are often really good quality. There’s standardised pricing. Tops cost £3.00 as do trousers. Occasionally you’ll see a designer label item priced a little higher, but by comparison to other charity shops, this one is incredibly reasonable.
