Went back after all this time… food was spicy and tasty. Portions were right sized. Wine was good. Service was good. Definitely a nice place to go.

Judging by the descriptors, I should choose 2 stars, or «Meh, I’ve had better.» However, the culture on Unilocal is that 2 stars seems to be terrible. This place isn’t terrible. It’s not even bad. Just ok(and 3 stars say«A-OK!.» First the good: Great ambiance, great service(however one of the female servers seemed to have very flat affect – maybe she is having some personal issues, so I won’t factor that into my review). Be prepared to be treated like royalty! The nan was amazingly hot and fresh. The lamb chop appetizer was served piping hot, was cooked perfectly with an abundance of mostly-caramelized onions, and had a delightful very dark sauce drizzled on the plate. The main course was also heated just right, on a hot plate, and placed on a heating plate, which is delightful. The rice pulao was fabulous. Now, the bad: Not really bad, but just«meh.» I ordered an appetizer of lamb chops, which is spectacular at the only other Indian restaurants where I’ve tried it(Pittsburgh, PA, my home). This was the highlight of my meal, and the three lamb chops for something like $ 8USD were cooked perfectly. But the spices were just not rich or complex. The shredded cilantro was abundant, but when I tasted one of the shreds, it was brittle, devoid of the addictive cilantro aroma, and flavorless – perhaps left out so long it lost everything. After eating 2 of the 3 chops, the non-happy server brought a light orange cold sauce, breaking the perfect record of great service. It looked slightly darker than thousand island dressing, and more like the«special sauce» in a big Mac. It was definitely«meh» and the coldness didn’t help either. Then my normal favorite arrived, lamb korma. Oh, what a sad event. The $ 15US korma was ok, maybe even good. But I’ve definitely had WAY better. The flavors didn’t seem complex, rich, or… uh… flavorful. Seemed like crème and sugar were the main ingredients. There definitely were some other flavors, to be sure, but they were a bit weak. Often I use the nan to scrape up every last drop, but my exuberance for doing so was lacking(and I was getting full, but that is usually not even a hindrance). So that garlic nan with the wonderful texture, served nice and fresh and(temperature) hot? The downside was that it had very little garlic flavor. Maybe the problem is me. Is Indian food in the UK tamed down from that in the USA? I didn’t think that was likely. I was excited to have Indian food here but this was not a good starting point. Maybe I should venture into London proper to do this, rather than start in a small town like Windsor. If you’re looking for complex flavors, and accustomed to korma that is a little spicier, this restaurant might not do. But if great service and fresh and hot nan is what you’re looking for, then by all means you should go to Viceroy. I might have tried the wrong dishes, but I’m not yearning to go back and spend another $ 33USD for one mediocre dish, one pretty good appetizer, a piece of fresh but flavorless nan, and a dish of truly great rice.

Despite my newly forged Unilocal account saying I’ve only eaten at Windsor’s the Viceroy Restaurant the once I’m actually quite a frequent customer. Not what you could consider a regular by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve certainly eaten there enough to say that theirs is one of the finest Indian restaurants in Windsor, and that their food and service is of a very high quality. If you’re looking to consume Indian cuisine while in Windsor you can’t go far wrong with a trip to the Viceroy. Thumbs up all round. Writing reviews of other people’s hard work and business validates me as a person and gives me a reason to go on. Love me and listen to what I say.

Haven’t had Indian food in some time and knew few better places outside India. Really enjoyed everything about tonight’s meal. Had the mixed starter. Then had a medium lamb dish and vegis in curry. Added garlic nan bread to creat full meal. Everything was cooked perfectly and very friendly and polite staff. Nice alternative to touristy spots around castle.

We trained out to Windsor for a day to get out of London and went into this place for dinner. There are several Indian food places in Windsor and this is one of them. The service was excellent and the food was super good. We had some kind of large shrimp in a sweet yellow mango sauce with that nan bread they make it was rocked. The owner actually came out to talk to us and we told him how good we thought the place was. He brought us some after dinner drinks on the house as a thank you plus some misc stuff with the restaurant logo on it as a thanks which was very unexpected buy very nice. I would go here again for sure.

Windsor Curry Club meets at a different restaurant each month, rating each experience for Flavour, Service, Atmosphere and Value for Money. We ask the restaurant to choose the menu in advance, giving them the opportunity to serve their best. We visited the Viceroy of Windsor in September 2012. This was the club’s second visit to the restaurant the last time being March 2011. Every table in the restaurant(it seats up to 80) appeared to be full however the layout of the dining areas didn’t make it feel crowded. The restaurant served a mixed starter that included tender pieces of chicken and lamb deliciously spiced and served with a crisp salad. This was followed by an excellent selection of mains including the Viceroys signature fish dish. Our two criticisms were; the quantity of food was not quite enough for our group and the service was very slow. Had the restaurant been less busy and the waiter more attentive this probably would have been addressed. Windsor Curry Club rated the traditional style Viceroy of Windsor 7.04 out of 10. The total cost of the meal(Inc. Drinks & Service) was £28.50 a Head.

Good food but all the dishes have the same base sauce. I would also agree with the previous reviewer that the menu tends to be a little pricey for the quality of the food. The waiting staff are charming and always ensure that as a customer you have a great experience.

Authentische, indische Spezialitäten in gediegener Atmosphäre. Qualität und Service sind super bei angemessenen Preisen. Ist zwar nicht ganz einfach zu finden, jedoch lohnt sich der Weg allemal für den Liebhaber indischer Küche.

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Windsor. The food and service is excellent and consistent. I think the Viceroy is great for groups maybe not after pub closing timebut if you want to go with a large group between 8−10pm, they seem to cope very well and the food is always served hot and spicy!

We’ve been going to the Viceroy restaurant for years. The food is consistently delicious and relatively good value for money. The service is great — friendly and quick. It is the best Indian restaurant in Windsor!

This place is top! It’s been a while since I ate here but it moved in when Barclay’s Bank moved out, many moons ago. You’ll get well looked after and very well fed!

I absolutely adore this place it is owned by a good friend of mine though i fear for its future as the heir to the keys is not exactly the wisest of people.

This is my mates restaraunt. Its run by Bangladeshis. They have good food, but the prices are off-putting.
