Edinburgh Woollen Mill

Oh my what lovely cashmere; I haven’t seen better since Pringle went under. They have fine selection of woolen goods and I was in dire need of some four ply sweaters (or vicuna which is a relative of the llama, and is now believed to be the wild ancestor of domesticated alpacas, which are raised for their coats. Vicuñas produce small amounts of extremely fine wool, which is very expensive because the animal can only be shorn every three years, and has to be caught from the wild. When knitted together, the product of the vicuña’s wool is very soft and warm. The weavers are found in Aucterader, Scotland and I get a bolt every 25 years while staying at the world’s greatest golfing resort, Gleneagles which is coincidently in the same wee town.
These folks do a fine job and it’s always nice to kill two birds with one stone (Windsor Castle is directly across the street).

Located right across the street from Windsor Castle, this store is great for finding sweaters, scarfs, and throw blankets on sale during the summer. I found a cashmere scarf for the wife for ½ price. They also have a variety of tourist items for sale. Overall, it’s a good little shop to stop after the castle.
