La Place Bistro & Froggies Bar

Stopped in for a beautiful mid-​week lunch with friends.
Escargot & the smoked haddock with spinach risotto were both excellent. The service was competent & friendly; plus the guys were kid-​friendly.
A great spot.

The girlfriend and I were looking for a light lunch and the prices looked very reasonable here. Though naming a French estabishment ‘Froggies’ did give equality and diversity training sensibilities a raised eyebrow
It was busy but we were soon seated and the food came out fast too
The girlfriend’s steak hache was cooked medium as requested — meaty amd dense though I could have done a little more seasoning but that was soon rectified
My smoked haddock risoni resembled a risotto but made with pasta rather than rice. the smoked haddock was the classy undyed version and I did like this varation even though the pasta wasn’t served quite al dente
£9.95 per dish and we walked out very satisfied and full

We sat near the window of this quaint place. Overall, our experience was enjoyable. A few things that missed the mark were the service, which was efficient but rather surly. Also, my Entrecôte was just average, except for the chips, which were good.
We had asparagus soup, good flavor, with cut up asparagus bits in it. Simply prepared. We had a beautiful cod special, perfectly cooked, with smashed potatoes underneath, great broth and flavors. The crab and avocado tian was a nice surprise, great flavors, including balsamic drizzle, greens, and an overall attractive presentation. My Entrecôte was a thin-​cut rib eye, this seems to be common in the UK. It was cooked ok, but unremarkable. The chips were nicely done, however.
Our wine was inexpensive and good. Overall, I thought the price to quality ratio was favorable here.
