One star is for the people working here who are all cheerful and nice. The other is because in an emergency they do serve actual food. The third because it was edible and they had wine. Admittedly I arrived late to the Premier Inn next door, and with 10 mins to spare before closing I ran in and tried to figure out how a Taybarn worked never having been in one before. It’s a mega buffet. I was informed they had stopped cooking 15 mins earlier so it was a Get what you can before its chucked” situation. I had battered cod, mushy peas, pasta in cheese sauce and salad. Fusion? Maybe not :-) It was half cleaned up and blocked off when I got in. The floor was FILTHY as were most of the tables. There was a strong smell of cleaning fluid like bleach. Gross. I’ve shovelled down my food now back to the hotel for a kip before the next leg of my trip.

School dinners but worse than you remember. Cheap food, buffet crap, people picking up food then putting it back. Avoid.

As long as you are not looking for a romantic candle lit meal, or excellent food, you will be OK here. Very cheap and cheerful, food isn’t spectacular but edible, clientele are a bit rough round the edges on the whole, very dark. OK if you are starving but not looking for any frills

Taybarns is never going to win any Michelin Stars, but that said its a cheap eat with lots of choice, not all of it is great quality but, if you get the chance to go more than once you will get to know what you like and don’t like. Yes there are lots of families with kids there but that’s the type of place it is. if you don’t like that whole food court kind of experience then don’t go. But if like me you are quite happy to experience all kinds of foods from street food to the most expensive restaurants then this is definitely one to experience at the cheaper end of the budget. Think of it as being equivalent in quality to places like Maccy D’s or KFC. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes you get the odd plate that hasn’t been cleaned as well as it should but, that happens in life sometimes(Just put that one aside and get a new one :-) All in all, it is what it is and people shouldn’t look down their noses at it, people who do are limiting themselves by their prejudices. Taybarns Thumbs up!

Haute Cuisine it isn’t but that’s not to knock it. It’s plain and simple food, thetype that most of us eat on a daily basis at home. Taybarns represents good honest food at low prices for the budget minded. Unfair and hurtful comments about the people that dine there says a lotabout those that post such dross. We eat there on a weekly basis and find the staff and indeed the fellowcustomers to be very friendly. Don’t be put off by negative comments. Judge for yourself. I’m sure you’llagree we me.

taybarns is a uk version of golden corral. it is operated by Whitbread who also own Beefeater & Premier Inn. that said its always hot food and for those who travel a lot it offers food just like home! visited today for lunch, which is always pleasant(except in school holidays!!!) if you have freedom to choose the time of your visit then it is great. at teatimes it can be full of loud screaming kids. still my preferred place to eat when traveling and not able to eat at home!

I went to try this place out after hearing people talk about it. I went at approx 5pm on a Wednesday. My satnav was trying to take me passed the building for some reason but I noticed the bright orange sign and the equally orange building front. At least you notice it on a dark night with a dodgy satnav! Only one person was on the ‘pay’ desk to get in and as people buy drinks there as they enter it took a long time to get in. On entering a girl explained how Taybarn’s worked and where each food was which was helpful. I’ll be totally honest here. the food was decidedly average, in fact below average in some areas. The Carvery was a joke, very disappointing, the vegetable pots where all close to empty or actually empty. Wet cabbage for greens, school dinner style tinned veg and what looked like baby sick for stuffing. Choice of gammon and turkey(I think that’s what they where!) both where given in stingy portions but I guess this could be down to the fact that you can go again(which after looking at the carvery I wouldn’t have!) The fish skewers and meat skewers where so dry I had to drench them in ranch dressing to swallow them, also everything tasted bland. The pizzas were awful. they are some type of flat bread with a skimp of cheese on with a small amount of toppings. not really what I call pizza, and again VERY dry. Maybe it was the time of day I went(by now it was 5.25pm) but I was hoping to see more ‘world food’ but there was only 3 pots with mild chilli con carne that had no mince that i could see in but half a field full of onions(to bulk it out), onion overkill fajita mix and something else I didn’t fancy eating as again it was 90% onions.(I love onions. but I was all onion-ed out by that point!). The pasta dishes were a welcome break though very basic, as they were wetter foods than most things there. I found myself sipping on cola to ease the dry throat and I never normally drink fizzy drinks. Later on in the visit they brought out prawns on skewers that were hard to swallow and tasted like fried eggs. Please someone teach them how to cook prawns(or any skewer food) without murdering them. The crumble was mostly tasteless. but the custard tasted ok so the two mixed worked. The cheesecake they had that night was not very nice and looked like it was 2 days old(I am sure it wasn’t but it looked that way!) I am a cheesecake fan so that was a let down. Ice cream… always a safe choice — but still not as nice as pizza hut icecream machine which is hard to beat :-) On a good note… the carrot cake was to die for. :-) I didn’t stuff my face, I ate a small amount of things that ‘looked’ appetizing. so I was basically left with the deserts to fill up on. bless the carrot cake… yum. I think kids would love it for the novelty. Desert lovers. fill your faces. the portions are large so no need to take 4 plateful’s at once. This could have been an ‘off’ day and perhaps the weekends have better foods so I can only give my honest opinion of my visit on this particular day. Anyone with a liking for nicer quality food then only go here if you want a fun trip out with friends/family to eat and be merry, not to compare the cuisine to other restaurants you may have been to as you may be left feeling disappointed. 2 stars out of 5 simply due to the blandness, dryness and terrible carvery that looked inedible. The 2 stars go to the friendly staff and the carrot cake. :-)

We visited Taybarns in Wigan yesterday — a nice experience was had by all! We enjoyed piping hot food(good quality too) at a great price. No complaints from us about the food or the staff! My only one fault find is that if you’re disabled(which i am) the waiting in the queue to pay is a bind especially when you can’t stand for more than 2 mins at a time and the queue’s are quite long generally it gets very hard work!

Taybarns is great! The staff have always been very polite and helpful. You do feel quite guilty when you leave, because you’ve eaten so much and are fit to burst.

i visited taybarns, and found the meals good value for what you paid, you could eat has much has you wanted, at one cost, enjoyed my first visit, however when visiting again although quite busy, you had to queue to pay before you could enter, i generally like a few drinks first before a meal, but you had to join a rather long queue, to the till, we had children with us who grew impatient, has did others, i also had a back problem, which made it worse, i could not stand up for too long, so anyone with any disability would have problems, it was ages before the end of the queue, paying and entering, i enjoyed it once we had paid and got seats, and could get drinks at the bar, but did not like having to wait in a queue for so long, and that was just to pay to enter.

We like taybarns its cheap and has a variety of food. I have 4 kids of different ages and they all have different tastes of foods, here we have something for each of them. And if they sit down with there plate and decide No mummy i dont like this(like they do often) no worrys they can go get something else without me having to pay out again. I found the Establishment to be clean and freindly staff. The ladies toilets was clean, i didnt inspect the mens lol. We have visited twice, early on a saturday and a thursday.

Taybarns have signs up at the moment saying new menu avaliable. However, I visited again and they have approx 3 new dishes the rest are the same. I went to taybarns on opening night and I thought it was fantastic. It has however gradually deteriated to the point that I wont be visiting again. The food is average and usually cold. However on an up note the staff I feel are very friendly.

Have visited Taybarns now on several occasions both with friends and with work. The first week they opened the food was great but staff weren’t prepared for the amount of people turning up and many dishes ran out leaving just a limited selection for customers. I put this down to teething problems and gave them another chance a few weeks later with friends. The queues to get seated were awful and the small bar /waiting area totally inadequate for the numbers of people waiting. When we finally did get seated again lots of the foods were awaiting restocking and others were overcooked and tasteless. Staff were slow to clear tables despite lots of people waiting and the floor around the drinks dispensers was dangerously slippy and very sticky. The carvery had run out of meat and only potatoes and vegetables were available and the staff were trying to quickly heat some apple pies as they had lots of custard and no pies/crumbles ready. Considering this was 7pm on a weeknight this wasn’t good service at all. Not a good meal that night at all, haven’t been back since. Modern surroundings, cheap price and cheap food.

We heard good things about Taybarns so thought we would give it a try. Wish we had not bothered really. Food was very bland, cheap and poor quality. The staff could not keep up with the demand so you had to wait(especially while the girl that was doing the pizzas was too busy flirting with one of the other guys) It would be Ok if you were just wanting to get out for the afternoon/evening with the kids and were not to fussed about the quality of the food. Atmosphere was ok. We wont be going back.

I love this taybarns! If your looking for an affordable meal for all the family this is the place to go to. You can feed your family until they split for just 6 quid. Drink refills also. They have all types of food that anyone may want, salads, pizzas everything and more. It is always packed though, best go early on in the day to avoid disappointment and they tend to put the best stuff on early too i find, though the standard of food is good whatever the time of day. I am going again soon so i obviously feel its great, i think anyone else will too!

Not my cup of tea really but apparently good value for money. Asmuch as you can eat for a set fee, and less for kids. I am not keen on food being kept at a temperature and prefer freshly prepared stuff which is not what they do here. Great for kids parties though as there is unlimited ice cream and drinks.

This had been recommended by so many of my work colleagues that I had to try it. We regularly take out people with various disabilities and problems — finding this place was wonderful. They do an all you can eat, like so many other restaurants, but here there is more than just chinese on offer. They cater for all possible tastes, and you can mix and match anything! 18.10.2008 — Just had to add that we’ve stopped taking our guys here as it was becoming too dangerous — it is too busy now. You have to pick your time or this is no room at all. Maybe I shouldn’t have recommended it?
