Having recently moved into the area, we decided to treat ourselves to Sunday lunch out. My wife chose The Hawk after reading some good reviews. Sadly this turned out to be the case, firstly and nothing to do with the establishment, we were seated next to a party which comprised of one very loud lady who revelled in her own voice, it was somewhat reminiscent to a ‘one foot in the grave’ sketch where the entire restaurant had to endure her conversation. That said, on ordering our first and main we were told that they had no cauliflower cheese, parsnips and no bread sauce. This was conveyed to us in what can only be described as surly manner. We ordered carrot and coriander soup, followed by roast chicken and roast pork mains. We found the soup had no texture or density and almost resembled a consommé. We returned the soups and asked for them to be taken away, it was at this point that the waitress on inspecting them agreed, with us and arranged for them to be removed from our bill. With our mains we had the added attraction of pigs in blankets, of which all but two of them were found to be undercooked and inedible. In amongst this the service was very ad hoc, as when we requested a bottle of water, we had to make another request for glasses, their was delay after requesting another bottle of wine. On a good note, their was one waitress who realised that things weren’t up to scratch and was very apologetic. On receiving our bill, we found that although we had been charged for not 2 but 3 soups, when we queried this, we were told that initially they had charged us for 9 soups. She returned with our revised bill only to find that she was still now charging us for the soups, eventually this was resolved and we left rather relieved that the ordeal was over. NB: Dessert consisted of a couple of bars of chocolate picked up from the local Spar store, most enjoyable. In my opinion unless you hear that this establishment has addressed its poor performance, then stay away from it.

Have been here a few times now. Has all the usual facilities such as toilets, disabled parking etc. Positives: Food is VERY nice. Quantity of food is more than enough. Large variety of food. Kids food is also good.(Especially sausage & mash). Staff are more than helpful. Negatives: As it’s so popular, it can be difficult to get a table at busy times and finding a parking space can also be difficult during these periods. Could do with takeaway cups for their coffees.

Surprised no one else has reviewed the Hawke Public House. My first visit with family member who comes here regularly. Friday lunchtime was very busy. Managed to get a table inside, has tables going off in many directions. Has two choices of menu, Mon-Fri till 5pm, lighter bite options alongside main menu which operates all day till 10pm. Usual thing where you sit at a table of your choice, select off of the menu and go up to the bar to order food and drinks. Given a wooden spoon which acts as order number. Food well presented and very enjoyable. Waitress then takes dessert order and coffee order at your table. Pay your waitress. The car park was very busy on arrival. Does have parking bays marked for blue badge holders. Toilet facilites for disabled. The Hawke also offers the chance to eat outside, but you then have to put up with smoke from other diners.
