Great and reasonable rooms upstairs and a great pub below. We got an amazing full English breakfast in the morning and the staff was super nice! A very pleasant experience indeed!

I both ate and stayed overnight at this place and felt that it was a decent place to stay at if you’re looking for something on the cheap side while wanting to avoid chain hotels like the Premier Inn. The owners are very friendly and down to Earth, and while it may be a bit tricky to find them on a busy evening in the bar, they’re quick to sign you in and show you to your room. We even had our room upgraded to a bigger larger bed. The room is modest but clean and nice and certainly fair for the price. The booking also comes with a complimentary breakfast(my first English breakfast) which was good. Big. Britishy. But good. Our only complaint arose when someone decided to enter the previously empty room across from us and start having sex all night with the door open. Old building + thin walls + weird sex & slapping sounds = really unhappy Jenny. While after a solid but polite ‘shut up’ conversation, they did finally go to bed. Or at least closed the door. But the next morning after an odd apology from the owners combined with an unfortunate voice recognition during breakfast we realised that the slapping sex couple were friends with the owners of the hotel. The whole thing was a bit odd. That being said, the owners were quite accomodating and even allowed us to keep our room until we left to catch the coach back to London. To be honest, this is the sort of place that’s best for chatty folk who are looking for something relaxed, chilled and to get a taste of town life. If you’re looking for a bit more a romantic weekend getaway, choose somewhere else.

Dear oh dear. This place doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. Sat in what can best be described as a shed crossed with a play area for much needed lunch. Awful food — the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had with virtually no fish inside the batter and undercooked chips. Tatty surroundings. Ancient gunky condiments. Rickety furniture. Dirty cutlery. They get one star simply due to cheerful staff. Really bad otherwise.

Thanks for the good time, Tony & Co!

On 3rd April 2012, I ate here in a party of ten men and the food was very good. On Saturday 16th June 2012, I returned with my wife and nineteen and seventeen year old sons. I was approached by ‘James,’ who took our order; he was confident, knowledgeable and efficient. The menu was offered to us, but we were informed that it was basic and that there were several concoctions which were available. When steak rib-eye was offered instead of the rump steak shown, I was drawn away from the fresh sea bass, which also was offered, but was not on the menu. It was not difficult for the other three to follow suit and four rib-eyes were ordered. No 1 son and I had ours rare and the others had medium rare. The steaks were red and pink in the middle as one would have hoped and all dishes were served with delicious salads and sauté-come-chipped potatoes, which were hot and crispy. The meals were thoroughly enjoyed by the whole party. Mine was washed down with a splendid pint of Shepherd Neame ‘Spitfire’ and a couple of glasses of a French merlot. The pub serves several ales and retains a ‘traditional’ décor. There are very old electrical items randomly displayed, such as cameras and projectors. Music was played and the atmosphere was lively. I have docked a star for the £15 which was charged for the non ‘appelation contrôlée’ red wine. For my money it should have been closer to £10.
