Grosmont Goathland and Aidensfield

I loved the place. Very commercialised because of the filming of Heartbeat in this area but well worth a visit. You HAVE to sit in the Aidensfield Arms (in fact the Goathland Hotel) and have a pint. With Scripps garage opposite and many of the old Ford Anglia Police cars on display. Even the Anglia used in the Harry Potter films.
And as the last reviewer stated. grab the steam train (North Yorkshire Railway) from Pickering to get there.

Another place worth a visit if in the Whitby area. go by train though :)
Another part of the North Yorks Railway used for filming. mainly heartbeat. but a journey on the steam trains from Pickering to Whitby also takes you through hereGrosmont.
A genuine 1950s railway junction where you can take a break in the station café, visit the engine sheds and view the locomotives under restoration. lucky tourists may be asked to act as extras.
Despite the influx of people, the sheep are free to wander the streets and yards.
This privately-​owned steam railway runs from Pickering to Whitby and carries over 200,000 passengers annually. There are over 8 trains a day and passengers are allowed to get on and off at the various stations along the way. (Which is GREAT!) This railway operates as a charitable trust and is the second longest preserved line in Britain.
Heartbeat television series set in the 1960s. Fans of Heartbeat I can’t say I am though I have seen a couple) will not be disappointed by a visit to fictional Aidensfield, as many of the series landmarks are recognisable, including the stores, garage /​funeral directors, the public house and of
course the railway station.
Some other regular settings in the series are located outside of the village. The police house can be found about 70 miles away in the small village of Askwith near Ilkley and the police station can be found in the town of Otley. This was a real police station in past years. It is often possible to see the stars of the show as filming for the series is commonplace throughout the week.
