There are a lot of problems in this tavern, and I think a lot of them are structural ones, which concern whole England. The staff there from the service to the chef up to the manager is very young, changes often and is partly completely unexperienced. Some people must get a lot money out of these kind of pubs. We went there three times, because it’s so central. The interiour is quite nice, mostly younger visitors, often with personal relations to the staff, obviously. The toilets were on all three evenings in desasterous condition, especially the gents toilet. You can go there for a drink or two and then better leave. On one evening I ordered explicitly an Original Schweppes Bitter Lemon and was given without any hesitation a fake one. The food was on one evening ok, average pub grub. On another evening we ordered the pasta with pesto and salmon. The noodles were swimming in a watery broth and were of course oversoft and without taste, the salmon was not grilled as advertised, but only boiled. As we asked about that wrongly made meal the girl of the service obviously didn’t know what could be wrong with it, hadn’t seen it before cooked the right way. She went to the manager, he didn’t come to our table to apologize. This would have been appropriate, but he just had us given the money back through the girl from the service, who told us that the chef was new and had never before cooked that meal. How can one be a chef, doesn’t know about the simplest things of food preparation, having been given no introduction at all and be left alone in the kitchen? Wow.

I ate here and the food was truly terrible. Everything was deep fried, dripping with grease and so hot it couldn’t be touched for ages. I would not eat here again although it is very cheap indeed. I think they had 2 main meals for £7.75 which is a ridiculous price!

Very pleasant, old-fashioned but open town-centre pub. It’s cosy inside but also has plenty of seats outside. Choice of drinks(including real ale) and food as usual. Friendly service. June 2009: Twice they had no real ale and seemed not to care very much.

This is a lovely pub right in the centre of town, hidden behind the main shopping street and right next door to Debenhams and the Cineworld cinema — so very convenient for a swift half while you’re out shopping(or if the wife is out shopping!) or before your film starts. This is a lovely cosy pub with a pleasant family atmosphere. It is child friendly, but this can mean that sometimes in the holiday season it can get packed out so that there is nowhere to sit. It has a nice outdoor seating area that is popular in summer, which is in a pedestrianised zone so it has nice clean sea air. A nice clean family pub.
