St Peter the Apostle, formerly St Columba’s and St Andrew’s High Schools, is the brand new Public Private Partnership high school serving the catholic students in Clydebank. It is absolutely massive and has tons of great facilities such as a gym and recording studio. PPP schools are cropping up in almost all local authorities in the Glasgow area. It will be interesting to see if the fixtures and fittings are still standing in 50 years time.

I attended this school when it was St Columba’s, before it was the subject of an über Public Private Partnership makeover. There is no doubt the results are impressive; I would have loved a dance and recording studio when I was at school. However, I wonder if the state of the art facilities may result in a few pampered pupils. I mean are hair straighteners in the girls’ changing rooms really necessary? I guess only time will tell as to whether or not the PPP iniative was a good idea or not.
