Was invited to this restaurant for a large group lunch. Overall I was fairly disappointed in the food here, as well as the service. Food wise, it was too salty and way too sweet. The sweet and sour pork tasted like it came from an Uncle Ben’s jar, and the fried rice was almost tasteless apart from the char siu chunks. Service, after one hour our table had been served 2 dishes and had our drinks refilled only once. I think in this case, catering for large groups caused a bit of an issue, and I’ll unfortunately be avoiding this place in the future!

Ok, few things strike fear into my heart like the term«Pan-Asian Restaurant». We used to come to the restaurant in Loon Fung fairly regularly as it offered reasonably decent dim sum without having to go into town proper — I hadn’t been for a couple of years and East has popped up as the newest incarnation in that time. East now does predominantly dim sum and sushi. Weird. I had a bad feeling that they’d end up doing both badly, but we had dim sum nonetheless. The dim sum menu is nothing extraordinary, but most of the dishes we had were good. The century egg and pork congee is decent and I was impressed by the fried items — many places(including previous restaurants in this location) often suffer from using old oil and not frying things as well as they could be which can lead to the food being greasy and a bit old-tasting. Not so here — everything was fried extremely nicely, the highlights being the wu gok(taro croquettes) and the fried turnip cake with XO sauce. We also had a plate of ginger/garlic gai lan(Chinese broccoli) which had a very tasty sauce, although the vegetable itself was a smidgen overdone(and I mean a smidgen). I have to say it’s not particularly cheap compared to the Joy King Laus of this world, but it’s a shade under what you’d expect to pay at some of the more upmarket places in town. Overall, I was pretty impressed and will likely go back when I need my dim sum fix — I love my fried things, so I’m happy they got this right here. Whether or not I’m brave enough to try the sushi is another thing entirely, however…
