Entered there by curiosity. Really lovely interior and staff. We had 2 lunch menus, one starter and one main course and one main menu and a desert. The food presentation was really nice and food pretty tasty, with one exception the peas purée. Will return for sure, the place is lovely and food not pricey in comparison to London.

Great ambience, friendly service, interesting and well-cooked food; a very reliable local restaurant that is like an old friend. Fantastic whatever the occasion — a leisurely Sunday lunch with family and friends or an evening meal with your wife. Recommended.

Have been to this pub twice for lunch and was well pleased with the interior, food, and staff. Interior is rustic yet has a modern edge to it. The staff are absolutely lovely they deal with huge lunch crowds with ease, maintaining a polite and helpful demeanor while navigating dozens of hungry mouths. I’ve had the haddock and chips, which was a nice turn on the usual: light tempura batter meant you could savour the flavour of the haddock, accompanied by tasty paprika-dusted chunky chips. The mushy peas were fresh and thick. My colleague had a pie and chips and remarked that the pastry was the perfect thickness flaky and savoury. To top it off, they have some nice ales on draught. Looking forward to returning again to sample another gastro treat from their broad menu.

We had a party of 8 for a recent birthday celebration at the Wellington. It was a Saturday evening and it was packed. Despite that, I found the staff to be attentive and informed and the service to be very good 8⁄10. The food on the night was as expected and there were no complaints from our party 9⁄10 I chose the Wellington because when we had used it before, we always found it to be a memorable experience for the right reasons. I will definitely go there again.

The Wellington is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the food is excellent, but some of the flavours just didn’t work. For her starter, my wife had scallops with pea purée — but the scallops had been sliced in half and then as overcooked. The resulting flavour was essentially pea. For my starter, I had ‘tempura’ prawns, but the batter was way, way too heavy for tempura. The end effect was much more like scampi, which was just OK. We both had steaks in our mains, and clearly the Wellingtons have a good meat suppleir as the flavour was excellent. The blue cheese sauce that came with the steaks was dire though — it was totally overpowering. We mentioned this to the waiter at the end of the meal and he slghtly patronizingly told us it was his favourite thing in the whole menu. As a side, we again had ‘tempura’ onion rings, but again the batter was too heavy. A few other gripes — you can’t book a table(unless it’s your birthday). I think that’s kind of wierd since despite pretentions to being a gastro-pub, the Wellington is a restaurant, plain and simple. Seating seems to be cramped in, expecially after the new refit. Most of the old ‘snugs’ are gone, and there are some odd looking configurations. When we cam in we were first offere a table where we would be perced on a bench that went around a corner. Not really ideal for a romantic meal. I can handle being crammed in at Wagamamas on a workday lunchtime, but no on a Saturday night. All in all, OK. A little overpriced also, for what you get.

Restaurant and pub reviews are always difficult because people often get a different experience(unless you go to McDonalds, I guess). But I would disagree with Stephen about the service: in our case it was great. The food was very good and looking at reviews on other sites, the main gripe is the price. And it is quite pricey for what is essentially pub fare(mains between £10-£22, usually hovering around the £15 mark). I baulked when Jo ordered a burger but it wasn’t like any old Beefeater burger — instead was full of taste. My steak was pretty good too, although a little shy short of the best steaks I’ve had. I liked the suggested wine matching with the food, although I’m sure it’s to stop you just going for the cheapest house red. There’s a nice atmosphere on a Saturday night and the tables are reasonable distance apart. If you want to go somewhere special for a birthday or anniversary, then the Wellington’s a great place to go.

This is a gastro pub with good food but poor service. It burned down recently and is being refitted. All the wines come from a single vinyard in Australia. OK if you like Aussie wines, but not perfect for me if you like a change. Having said that there is a good variety of grape varieties. I have always enjoyed the food here, but you can’t book, so I never even bother coming except early in the week. It is very popular later in the week. The service can be very slow, although the staff are friendly and at least don’t make mistakes taking your order. They tend to be young and good looking, although this doesn’t make the food any better.

This pub/restaurant serve delicious food. They are a tad more expensive than most pubs, but its well worth the extra money. They offer quite a wide range of food and lots of wine, and their puddings are divine.

Fantastic. A delicious meal, pleasant lively surrounding, excellent service. A creative wine list with interesting strangely named wines. I highly recommend it.
