With a friend, we wanted to try a Indian restaurant in downtown Watford. On the internet, there a limited review on such restaurant here, so, as we have seen there were 2 on Market Street, we walked over there and say we’d like to. So it was the Joya Tandoori. 1– General Aspect First, we looked at the menu and the atmosphere from outside, and the restaurant looks nice, fair price. Dish around 6GBP, coke for 1.5; bier for 2.5. The restaurant was far from full but with some people inside, so it gives a bit of confidence to give a try. Inside, the atmosphere is warm, with nice table cloth. The general aspect looks really good 2– Service Once entered, nice welcome from the staff who were not too busy. It was easy to have a look at the menu and at the same time offered some papadum with their dressing, sweet and spicy. From the menu, you select different plates starting at 5 or 6GBP, but in the end you end up with a reasonable bill, depending of what your order. We ate some Lamb Kurma, Tikka Massala, some vegtables, naans, and fried aubergine and potatos. All order arrived at the right time, was hot. At the end of the meal, you receive some hot towels, to clean up your finger. When the bill arrives, it comes with mints Regarding the service, it is really a good one 3– Food The lamb Kurma was really sweet with it coconut sauce, plenty of sauce and not a lot of lamb. The lamb also where not the good chunk sometime, as I bite in some nerve… The Tikka Massala was not spicy but it was a good meal consider my friend first time to an Indian restaurant. Again, lack of meat considered I wanted to try this meal as well. The vegetable were really ok The naan, was really flat, bumpy and too crispy. Personally I prefer the one from the supermarket, you heat in your oven! 4– Last but not least Good atmosphere, good service, with food quality to be improved. However, given the limited choice of Indian in downtown Watford, it is not that bad. But compare to other type of restaurant like some Italian, I’d rather go more often to the italian, as I’ll eat better there, but there the price is more expensive As already said, price is really good, we ended up with a bill of less than 40 for 3, all included. I was surprised they did not recommend a tip.

Really not impressed by this restaurant. The mixed grill was burned and grisly and the naan was too doughy. the tablecloth had a burnt iron mark on it too! Pretty dire all round.
