Recently renovated with a new look and a new menu. The setting in old Thelwall is picturesque and the pub fits nicely in the surroundings.
The food is well above normal gastropub fayre and the service was friendly.

What a lovely old traditional pub. The Pickering Arms is in Thelwall village and is a lovely quaint place to go for drinks and food. It’s lovely and cosy inside with lots of exposed beams and dark wood. The place has recently had a refurb so it looks nice and smart now.
We went for lunch which was very reasonable with 2 courses only setting us back £10. I had the broccoli and stilton soup to start which tasted delicious and was definitely homemade. The veggie cannelloni was also homemade and the accompaniments such as the garlic bread were of a high quality.
The Pickering Arms is the perfect pub to visit Winter or Summer as the roaring fire and old world feel make it great in the colder months whilst the pretty beer garden make it perfect on a sunny day.

I live on the other side of warrington and visit the pick at least once a week. I’ve been going for the past year and never had a bad experience. home cooked food with real chips. there is always something new on the specials board. crème brûlée is to die for. they also have a steak deal on, on Wednesday and Thursday with two rump steak and a bottle of wine for less than £25. the best rump steak I’ve ever had. is worth a visit. i will be continuing to visit for a very long time.

Thisis another of the many very old pubs in the Warrington area. There is a story on the outer wall of how Thelwall has been officially a city for over a thousand years. The pub isn’t that old!
It has a wonderful selection of well-​served food and excellent beer. The welcome is warm and I felt very comfortable as soon as I went in.
I don’t know about the Ladies, but the gents is tiled with some extremely funny, Heath Robinson type illustrations.
