A standard multiplex that benefits from being the only cinema in the south east of the old Northumberland county, serving most of Tyneside north of the river. Biggest competitor is The Gate, in the city centre, but that’s somewhere to avoid at weekends due to the unacceptable levels of drunkenness and boorishness emanating from the nearby boozers. Parking also available on the attached very busy retail park, which is necessary as you do need to drive to get there.

Odeon is your traditional multiplex cinema, situated on the popular Silverlink retail Park in North Shields. It changed from a UCI in recent years and since then we have suffered a series of price hikes, £6.80 being the standard price for adult admission, but then you need to remorgage to be able to afford the pricey film food(bring your own). They show a good range(although not all) of the current blockbusters and also hold kids clubs at 11am at weekends, as well as special senior citizen showings, priced at only £3. You even get free tea, coffee and biscuits. Directors Cut showings of rare or foreign language films are also popular, check out for details.

The 9 screen cinema has been around for a number of years and is always popular. It has the usual food and drink as well as a licensed bar which is handy. It is comfortable enough and the sound quality is always good. Well situated with places to eat at either side and some shopping outlets around it. Good down to earth cinema.

This Odeon Cinema(formerly UCI) is situated on the Silverlink Retail Park, between Frankie & Bennys and Pizza Hut restaurants. The cinema has been there for approximately 10 years and remains as popular as ever due to its easily accessible location. The cinema has 9 screens, hot food, pick & mix, a fully licensed bar and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream counter. Full wheelchair access is available in each screen and an infra-red sound system is installed in all auditoriums for those guests who are hard of hearing. Each screen also benefits from air conditioning and SDDS sound systems. Premier seats are available in each auditorium at a slightly higher cost. I actually find these seats more uncomfortable than the ordinary seats so I don’t think they are worth the extra money.
