We stayed the night here on account of our visiting Glyndebourne Opera. Got De Montfort room at £120 B&B for the two of us. It generally filled the bill, room OK, nice garden with good views where we had a snack before going to the opera. I was told this place has won Sussex Gastro poub of the year, though not borne out by previous reviewers. Beakfast was just aboiut adequate(eg I would have liked some grapefruit). Acceptable, but notyhing special

Assigned here by work, it was quite a charming place in the middle of a picturesque, quaint English village. I was there with some sun and I can imagine what a gorgeous summer bbq would be like. Breakfast service was good and the plate of my full English could not have been better. The rooms are all named and each has a certain character to it, the back gardens overlook rolling hills, plenty of space for a drink and food. I would definitely visit again and recommend this place for my friends to «experience England»

The Griffin is a wee bit out of Brighton, in the village of Fletching near Uckfield, but it is so worth the trip. A lovingly restored old pub, the décor hasn’t been modernised, this is still a place of intricately patterned carpets, walls groaning under black and white photographs and horse brasses, but the quality of the food is superb. Before my food arrived I was already pleased to discover they have my favourite beer, the locally brewed Hepworth Blonde on tap, but the menu really impressed me. I had pan fried chicken livers and they were incredible. Literally the best chicken livers I have ever eaten in my life, almost runny on the inside and a perfect flavour. Admittedly it isn’t cheap, my livers were £8 and it was barely more than a mouthful, but what a mouthful! I had a chocolate and pecan tart for pudding, the sweetness of which was nicely balanced by a dollop of crème fraiche. They have a beautiful garden over looking the Ouse Valley, and although I haven’t been to one of their summer barbecues yet I will absolutely be going back.

This is — in my opinion — one of those places you have to visit before you die. Preferably on a nice sunny day in the warm months. The pub is steeped in history and that is reflected in the well kept but near un-touched interior. They have some great ales on tap and all are served with a friendly smile and, if not too busy, are happy to talk through some of the pub’s history. The garden here in the summer is fantastic. The views are breath-taking and they run a barbecue every Sunday which of course, does attract a huge crowd so either get there early or have some extra bags of patience with you. We head there without fail once a year with a big group of friends and spend the whole afternoon eating and drinking beer, I highly advise you to do the same!

The Griffin… it’s been about for a long time. Traditional Pub that actually does operate as a pub!!! It does not pretend to be a west end wine bar for London Yuppies, it’s a pub, in the heart of a Sussex semi rural village. The pub is very much a living part of the Village life. Now, having said that, I have been going to the Griffin for many years. Truth is I don’t tend to go as often as I’d like(no reflection on The Griffin) nowadays I live just a bit too far away. The Griffin is, I guess, what we would call nowadays a «Gastro Pub»? Staffed by chefs rather than plate filling chimpanzees, they can cook. It shows. Pretty consistent, great food, never been let down, never been disappointed. Food in the bar, is as good as it get’s for bar food. I like the informal style of eating out, plate, and napkin sit at a table in the bar, simple as that. Good array of ever changing dishes on the boards, daily specials etc. It’s never going to be the cheapest, but then as I say all the time, good and cheap defy the laws of business economics. You get what you pay for. I feel the Griffin serves good value for money, good/great food. They do not do cheap food. Cheap food in my mind is something else… that really does not interest me? They also have a jolly nice restaurant, only eaten in there once… was great. I also know they have a range of very nice accommodation, much of it very near new. I have not stayed there but again am told very nice indeed. All in all great, together with huge garden makes this a great pub summer and winter. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Whoa! Popped in here for a pint with a view on the way back from the beach yesterday(the warmest, sunniest day of the year thusfar). The pint of local bitter completely hit the spot and the view oh the view well, it was worth the trip alone. Resting upon a hill overlooking the green and gorgeous Downs(with plenty of outdoor seating), my time at The Griffin was restorative and relaxing. I’ve heard raves about the food, but I was just too full from picnicking on the beach to contemplate consuming anything else! I guess I’ll just have to go back.

I agree with the last two reviewers; the Griffin Inn is a fantastic place for a special meal. I say ‘special’ because it is now fairly expensive, however the food makes up for that. The last time I went I had(despite three young women on the next table sending it back because it was underdone!) perfectly cooked venison. This is obviously a chef who respects ingredients and so if you want overcooked meat you will have to ask for it! My only complaints are like the second reviewer the staff are very busy and therefore it is not always the most relaxing place to eat. The second is that for my starter I ordered fish soup, which wasn’t fish soup but was in fact lobster bisque and this coupled with venison was an incredibly rich meal.

I had a customer of ours visit our new showroom to pass over a cheque for the deposit on their new window shutters. While they were here they asked me(because they were not that familier with the area) a good pub to visit for lunch. As they were then heading to Haywards Heath I had no hesitation in recommending The Griffin in Fletching. Good food, good atmosphere, I cant fault it. We have had our last 3 Christmas do’s here.

The Griffin Inn is acclaimed for its food, as it was doing«gastropub» before«gastropub» was«gastropub». As a result, you get all the good-quality food with none of the faux-country charm. It’s so acclaimed, in fact, that the last time we were there we had to wait nearly 2 hours for our food. It took 45 minutes to even place our order, since the kitchen stopped taking them while it caught up. I really don’t blame the Inn for this: we arrived right at lunchtime on sunny weekend, and it was heaving with people. No amount of kitchen staff would have helped. So, we just got some pints in. There are several small rooms, plus some outdoor seating space in a back garden. They have several nicely-appointed rooms in the main building and some outbuildings as well, if you’re looking for a place to stay. Avoid the busiest times, but stop her for some serious grub( ).
