This is without a doubt my favourite country pub of all time. The steak will blow your mind!

All locally sourced and organic and one of the best pubs we have eaten at in a long time. We ate 3 courses and devoured all of them with gusto! :-) Really fabulous! The staff are super friendly and helpful(one of the chefs even came out to advise us on a good place to stretch our legs locally after a large lunch!). Cannot recommend highly enough and can’t wait to visit again…

I have given this 3 stars and too be frank feel I have been generous. Went for my birthday a couple of days ago for dinner. No question a fabulous building and pretty helpful nice staff. Food was very disappointing no gastronomic excitement this night. Pâté/terrine we had, cold(Too cold) and hard because it was so cold. My steak very average quite tough little sauce had to ask twice for more(even then the béarnaise was given to me in amounts that made you think it cost £100 per fluid ounce) Steak lacked seasoning and was mightily tough. Puds came, ok, no more than average. Bill was still a half decent bill mind you. Not cheap. Would I go again? Yeah, probably would give it a second shot. Fab building very helpful staff. Don’t go expecting 3 Michelin stars. I feel(that’s my view) its average at best. I think it lives on ghosts in the corridor days when it was good. I recall those days. I don’t think its so hot now. None the less as I said, I’d prob try it again.

Schade das die Fahrt dahin so weit ist. «Kneipen» mit einer solchen Atmosphäre sind hierzulande selten zu finden. Dazu eine interessante und sehr ambitionierte Speisenkarte. Viele Produkte stammen aus der Region und der nächsten Umgebung. Die Qualität ist wirklich gut und die Preise nicht billig aber angemessen. Wie können wir da nur unsere Vorurteile in Bezug auf die englische Küche aufrechterhalten? So einen«Country Pub» hätte ich gern in der Nähe. Da in der Gegend viel Geld unterwegs ist, gibt es natürlich auch hier bei den Gästen einige Posh-People und die sogenannten YummieMummies.

A very very old establishment and according to themselves, the SECOND oldest pub in the country no less. According to the menu blurb, you can see some marks in stone that were made by the swords of soldiers returning from the Battle of Agincourt. But I have not not seen these marks myself and nor was I around for Agincourt, so I can’t verify this claim. I can however confirm that this is an ace pub, which has a more lavish menu in the restaurant upstairs and a more compact but no less delecious selection of food in the bar area. Both menus are laced with local produce and on our latest visit I opted for a Kentish ham hock terrine, followed by a very tasty duck breast. Good value nosh and a nicely sized portion — just right. A word of warning. If you are tall, then you will have to duck a lot in this pub, as back in the day, folk were a lot shorter.

I’m not a huge fan of ‘Gastro pubs’ but this place is hard not to love. The atmosphere is so nice and relaxed and and the seating really comfortable so as soon as you walk in you feel at home. The food is out of this world and all localy sourced. I had a gorgeous seabass the last time I ate there but the menu changes all the time depending on whats fresh at the time. If you can, book a table in the conservatory as it has lovely views.

Been here a few times, never lets you down. Ye Olde country pub feel downstairs with a contempory beer garden and newish upstaiers. Food is of a very high standard does a fantastic sunday roast

This is my local, my dad brought me here when we first moved back to the UK and I’ve been going ever since for their famous speldhurst sausages at lunchtime at the weekends. They have a lovely restaurant upstairs which does fabulous food.
