Loads of places to get shorn, trimmed and clippered in TW. This is mine — I’d far rather go here than to one of those places in the Royal Victoria where you pay twice as much for the same job while weary shoppers trudge by behind you in the vague direction of the next skinny latte. I see that local Qypeissimo«thesussexidler» also has his locks teased and tousled at Dennys, which is a good sign. Denny himself — as the sign proudly states — is in the Guinness Book of Records for Most people Shaved In An Hour. I heard tell that about 1800 lathered and nervous gents were lined up on the seafront at Herne Bay and they went home with fewer whiskers and no lacerations. Whether you’re having a short-back-and-sides or a clipper job, it’s a more leisurely — and less harrowing — experience. There are also a couple of ladies there, one of whom is his daughter, who really know what they’re doing, and Denny is very hot on the subject of barbering being its own distinct thing and not just an afterthought on a hairdressing course. Big leather chairs while you wait and eyebrows trimmed on request. Five stars.

I’ve never seen a town with more barbers per head than Tunbridge Wells. They’re everywhere & are often located in clumps. It’s all rather odd. Anyway, Camden Road and Grosvenor Road hold the main concentrations but there’s only one place I’d trust my thatch to — Dennys Place. Why? Because they care about doing a good job. Ladies — do you hate your bloke having those scary mutant hairs down their nape? Send ‘em to Denny. My favourite barber is the tall blonde haired lady — don’t know her name — she really takes a pride. Errant Qyper ‘legrandflaneur’ goes here too. If it’s good enough for that ageing peacock it’ll do for you too…
