Fresh, authentic and Yummmmm! Cant wait to go again. We ordered the Tandoori chicken — I was basically licking my fingers it was so tasty. Grilled cauliflower as starter, veggie rice and a spicy lamb curry — Fantastic! One of the best curry I’ve had.

Swadesh is a rare thing, a good quality buffet joint. Set in fairly plush surroundings next to the Novotel, Swadesh offers a varied menu, but I went for their lunchtime buffet deal, £6.90 gets you all the food you like. What surprised me when I went with a friend was that the options were narrow but good, not vica versa like other rivals (I’m looking at you Tabak). There were only two or three meat curries (plenty of starters, rices and vege options too though) but they were all better than a la carte at many other places I’ve been, especially the curry mile. The meat had real bite and was clearly something I wasn’t going to regret ingesting, unlike some curry places where you feel glad but worried that you can’t see the ingredients. The spicing wasn’t brilliant, but had a good amount of balance and actually tasted of what it should, not just a blend of nothingness.
Would I recommend it for a meal out? Not for something special, but for a lunchtime feast with mates, sure. And would I go again? I intend to.

Swadesh certainly packs a punch. Set in a beautiful mock-​Tudor building, it’s probably the most swish Indian restaurant I’ve ever seen. Inside, the modern décor is a stark contrast to the exterior, with a palette of cream and brown, chain curtain partitions and leather banquettes.
To be honest, I’ve only driven here to order take away. It isn’t exactly cheap but to be honest sometimes you want something you know is going to be top quality. There aren’t many take-​aways that offer Fresh Mussel Masala or a rack of lamb marinated in a myriad of rich spices. I recommend this place for a date if you want to impress. You can’t really beat it on quality.
