The Plains was the market place for the town of Totnes until the 1950’s now it is the flattest part of the town & where you catch a taxi, watch dancing(see pic) & the yearly Carnival wind up. Lots of lovely places surround it, like the Riverside café & in the middle, is a statue to the town’s son, Wills, of the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition; the first to cross Australia from south to north, & where he perished.
