We happened upon this character pub after seeing the sign close to the Tile Museum and drove down to the river to find it. Great spot, post WWI foot Memorial Bridge opposite. The floor inside has terracotta floor tiles, a pianola [sadly, just 1 music roll], friendly staff & regulars, fascinating local history photos on the walls and a short, but very tempting lunch and evening menu. Despite this being a Saturday early evening, the chap doing the cooking was more than happy to take an order from the lunch menu. When the food arrived, I was bowled over by the more than generous plateful of penne with chunks of chicken and many slices of chorizo, along with sun-dried tomato, plus garlic bread was included on the side! Most delicious! My other half had the very tasty premises-made 8oz beefburger which came with sauté potatoes and a good sized leaf side salad. Both came in at £6.99 a head. We just about managed to eat our meals & recommended them to the Dutch lady there who was staying at the Youth Hostel. The ale was well-kept, too, my fella told me. We shall be back! :-)

The Boat is a lovely pub right on the banks of the Severn, although it is prone to flooding its absolutely beautiful in the summer and makes a wonderful place to sit outside with a pint and watch the world go by. We have often gone down there for lunch and eaten off the bar menu, the food is very nice and the staff are friendly. Its a bit out of the way from Telford but really is worth the trip down the windy lanes to find it. Sitting watching the river go by is very relaxing and they have plenty of outside tables to make the most of the view.
