The Corner House Hotel

A very old and lovely building. Rooms are small, but clean. It is a quiet place at night. The best part of the stay is the lovely English complimentary breakfast. They have a cold breakfast buffet and you can also order the hot breakfast. The food is delicious with lovely presentation. Great service all around as well.

My family and I stayed at this hotel during a trip to Taunton recently. First impressions were that it was a nicely decorated, small hotel with a nice B&B feel to it. The reception area is small, but the bar and restaurant area are spacious and homely.
Once you go up the stairs to the accommodation levels, it turns into a bit of a labyrinth of tight corridors and poor signage — the rooms seem to be sporadically dotted all over the place! The rooms are small, dated and pokey.
However it’s the service — which is utterly appalling — that really lets the hotel down. Long story short, I arrived later than the rest of my family and after a lengthy check in (the receptionist was on the phone chatting aimlessly to someone for about 15 minutes), I went up to my room and as I entered I noticed someone had already checked into the room — there were bags on the floor, and you could just tell someone was staying in there. So I went down to reception to complain. The receptionist didn’t believe me and went up to the room to see it for herself. At this point she didn’t apologise, and rang her manager who appeared to advise her to put me in another room. 10 minutes later I am given another room, so I go back up the stairs, through the labyrinth, open the door and hey presto, there’s a woman having a shower with the bathroom door open, and clothes spread all over the bed. Thankfully she didn’t see me, and I made a swift exit, back to the reception. At this point the receptionist looked a little embarrassed, however there was once again no apology. 15 minutes after that I get given a third room — this time, one with no one in it. Saying that, the last time I stayed in a room like that was at a cheap hostel in London.
Needless to say, I never received an apology, let alone a free drink or breakfast, which would have been nice. I will NEVER stay here again, and going off the other complaints, I would strongly suggest staying elsewhere in Taunton.
