When I visit from the US one of the first things I do soon after touch down is get my fish and chip fix in. This place looked good so I parked up and ordered a large cod n chips. It was fantastic and hit the spot perfectly. The chips were super fresh, fat and got nice and soggy after applying vinegar. The fish was perfect. Big and as the previous review pointed out not greasy at all. The only annoyance was that they didn’t have any vinegar bottles for purchase(I was looking to stock up for the return journey home).

Easily the best fish & chips in town! Everything is freshly cooked. No old oily batter to be seen. Generous portions. The fish is usually bigger than the large box it comes in.

I firmly believe you should judge the character of an entire town by one or two poor experiences, especially if you spent well under than 24 hours in the place. Mr. Cod did not help to change my mind about this claim, as it was one of the only places I visited in the UK that served flat-out bad food. This is the UK equivalent of Long John Silver’s, but with the pricing pain of our depreciated American currency. Food was mediocrity personified, staff were indifferent, the place was exceptionally brightly lit with fluorescent lighting, and there was some loud, bad pop music on a loop. I was not a fan. On a side note, I should mention that last weekend, I decided to go ahead and watch the entire British version of The Office.* In Season Two, the office receives an infusion from the recently closed Slough branch, and many cast members mention how much more they prefer Swindon. How bad must Slough have been? Can you even imagine? * If you wait a decade or more to catch up on pop culture, you can watch everything for a much better price, skip all the crap, and always have plenty of things to watch when you’re bored. Speaking of which, this«Firefly» show is pretty good! Hope it has at least as long a run as Star Trek.
