The Welshman thought because it looked quaint… and we were starving, that this would be a nice place to stop for lunch. Amazingly… the same chain pub menu that you can find just about anywhere in the UK. Unfortunate really, but we had already sat down and we couldn’t going without some food. I went with the ribs and he went with the All-American Combo. I figured it would be average pub food, but it was actually worse. The waitress brought the plates out, holding them with towels because she said they were very, very hot. When I touched mine, it was warm. My ribs however were about room temperature… toward the cooler side. The fries were soggy, onion rings so overdone you could break a tooth on them and just about everything on the plate was about room temperature. The Welshman’s ‘All-American Combo’ was about the same… barely warm, soggy chips, but he also had chicken in a crispy coating and chicken wings that did not have any sauce. He said that he knows he can be a snob about food, but this was pretty bad. However, he was a very hungry man so he kept eating, but after a few ribs, soggy fries, and the mushrooms(which may have sucked the warmth out of the ribs they were sitting under as they were the only warm things on the plate), I gave up. It might be a good place to stop for drinks and if you need the toilet, but if you want a meal, I’d say keep trekking.

I have been visiting the Gower Inn for as long as I can remember. Although to be honest the food is really just standard pub fare, its location nearby my favourite South Gower beaches makes it a good place to stop for a quick drink or bite before returning home after a day on the beach. I tends to cater for all ages and is often very loud and busy. One nice touch, is that for a small deposit, it provides board games such as Trivial Pursuit or Jenga, which can be played whilst enjoying a leisurely drink. The Inn has a large car park and an outside eating/drinking area. The Gower Inn is ideal if you need something quick, but gourmet dinning it’s not!
