Can you tell the difference between Indian and Bangladeshi food? If not then I recommend a trip to Sonali Spice. It’s one of those bring your own booze joints but the food is exceedingly good. The restaurant is deceptively large, around sixty covers and it has an open kitchen so you can witness a gang of chefs preparing dishes with skill and flair first hand. I’m here for dinner with a few friends on a Thursday night and the place is pretty busy. There’s a large table which has been decorated with party balloons, it’s a 30th. This is a clue that it’s a popular celebratory venue. I had the Chilli Chicken, superb. Bill came to less than £20.00 each.

Fantastic food. Although sevice a little amateur. Must remember to bring your own wine but entertainment is on the house in the form of a nutty owner who walks around talking to himself. Its a must see ha ha. But seriously if you can handle that it is well worth a visit. Yum it was delicious.

I went to Sonali spice tonight to try it out because they had an offer in the window that i spotted today when driving past. Any starter any main rice or naan £9.95. My wife rang befor we left to see if it was a limited menu, they said it was but you could choose from quite a few dishes. So we went along me my wife and daughter, got there at 6pm empty, sat down looked at the special menu and everything was on there. I had a mixed grill, my wife had a mixed grill my daughter had chicken tikka. I didnt expect the mixed grill to be on a specials menu when it came you got 1 sheesh kebab 2 chicken tikka 2 lamb tikka and sauces, it was perfect really nice starters. Main meals wife had a naga(hot) daughter had tikka massala and i had tikka pathia. All 3 meals were luvly rice and naan perfect. Waiters didnt keep asking you if you wanted more drinks which they do at other indian resturants in the area. We have a curry once a week every week we have tried most of the indian resturants in Sutton Coldfield and there are a few. We used to frequent Turmeric Jones until this week, when the wife asked for her curry to bit a little bit hotter but she like the flavour but not the spice they charged me £1 for 2 chillies(joke). I always have a mixed starter but they only do a mixed for 2 people for £7.50, so i asked for it for 1 person so easy half what they put on the plate simple which they did but charged me £5 for it. So we are glad they done that really because we have now found sonali spice same food ½ the price. Great meal, great price and friendly staff that don’t hassle you but look after you and make you feel welcome.
