What you see is what you get, really. It may be big, but any residual character is left rattling around the chambers and hard to spot. It’s the kind of place you’ve been to a hundred times in a hundred towns. It’s not poor and standards in service and cleanliness are fine, but unless you’re here for well-prepared but simple food, as a creature of habit, or to entertain the kids in the toe-curlingy named Fuzzy Ed’s, there are better bets for spending your cash. And yet, amid all that, maybe I’m missing the point as in warmer weather, there’s always one or two large groups of friends hanging out in front of the venue. Perhaps it’s some kind of hangover from Mere Green’s mid-to-late-80s period as a hotspot for Birmingham nightlife. Or perhaps they know they’re onto a good thing and I just have unfair expectations — albeit expectations that are met elsewhere in venues not too far away.

I hadn’t been here for a number of years, so I decided to pop in for a quick drink one Friday after work. The place is nice enough, it’s smart and well decorated, clean and spacious. However, I couldn’t help feeling slightly under-whelmed. With quite a few pubs in the area a place has to be special to keep me coming back. There’s just not a lot here for couples enjoying an afternoon out. As a family pub though this place must rank fairly highly. There’s a large garden out the front, with lots of seating and pretty outdoor lighting of an evening. But there’s even more play inside. The pub houses it’s very own indoor adventure playground. Fuzzy Ed’s is the perfect place to let the kids play whilst the adults take advantage of a well earned rest. As a pub it’s not my first choice, but I’m sure the local kids wouldn’t agree with me.

Fuzzy Ed’s? What’s that? There is a big ’ Fuzzy Ed’s ’ sign outside this very smart looking pub in Four Oaks. It’s a kids indoor playground, tubes, slides, ladders, ballpits. I just wish I was 7 years old once more. This kids mecca may put off some people but it’s upstairs so if you just want beer & food stay on the ground floor and you’ll never know it exists. Charming staff, good beer and very nice restaurant area were enjoyed by my family and there is an outside area for better weather. Excellent!

Great carvery and alternative menu. Big pub and recently changed hands. It was a Wacky Warehouse place before and they ran it down a bit, but this was always a great pub for food and the new owners are taking it back where it should be. Now the family favourite for Sunday lunch. Great décor and free wifi access too.

This pub has recently had new management in, and is a great place to take kids of all ages. Good value meals also available. Great place for the kids to have lots of fun in a relaxed happy atmosphere. Plenty of parking available
