I bought a pair of sandals in BHS while on a visit to Durham. While there I received a promotional discount voucher for the restaurant but was unable to use it as I had already eaten. On arriving home I found one of the sandals to be loose fitting and decided to return them to the Sunderland store where I live with the intention of visiting the restaurant. However, I was refused a refund on the grounds that this store do not sell mens shoes, which I was unaware. I was informed I would have to return them to Durham, which would not be cost effective as the cost of the sandals was just £15. I pointed out that the receipt had stated that any unworn/unused item could be returned at any BHS store with a receipt within a month. This was not accepted. I then visited the restaurant and when I went to pay, I was told that cash only was accepted as the till was not working. This was not a problem for me but my 20% discount could not be accepted because of it. I have shopped at this store for many years and have never had a shopping experience such as this. I am a respectful, reasonable person and believe I should have been accorded the same at the customer services desk which sadly was amiss.
