I had heard that this was a definte foody place so was quite exctied to dine here. The restaurant is very comfortable and it has a good supply of wines and beers. There was a good atmosphere and I had high expectations. However, the service was remarkably slow. My partner and I has drank 1 bottle of wine before the starter came, which was about 45mins from ordering. We then needed to buy a second bottle which added to the bill. The food was very good, but was a bit pricey for what we received. The portion sizes for the pasta were really small and I didn;t feel totally satisfied when I left. If the service was faster and the portions were a little larger it would be perfect.

I had heard very mixed reviews about this place before my visit so did not know what to expect. We chose a Friday evening to dine here but wished we had chose a midweek day as it was clear that the staff were finding it very hard to cope and service was poor. Food was quite nice but nothing to shout about. I had a risotto that was really bland and tasteless, while my partners steak was a little on the pink side for being well done. The main restaurant is a little like an old school class room and was very echoey so we found it hard to have a conversation. Not the worst in town by far but deffinately not the best by a long shot.

Intimate Italian dining, Good food, good wine, good atmosphere, can be very busy at peak times so best to book. Well worth a look if you like Italian food, some interesting twists on classic Italian recopies! Staff can be intimidating if you’re not certain on your order or deviate from ‘the norm’

In the new Sunny Side development near the old Post Office, Angelos is a lovely Italian restaurant. It’s nicely derated and has a nice atmosphere to it. It’s not expensive, but expect to pay a bit more than the usual italian. The bread for starters is very nice, and I loved the trio lasagne which has three types of lasagne is one dish. The risotto which we got by mistake was also very tasty. They have a roaring fire which can get a bit hot if you’re sitting right next to it. Be sure to book on popular nights and it does get quite busy, although we’ve never had a problem.

If you are after a good italian meal in Sunderland you would be pushed to find a better one than at Angelos. The food is fantastic: good portions, well cooked and good value for money. Situated near the cinema it is the ideal place for a bite to eat before a movie. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the restaurant itself is very relaxing. I’d recommend the stuffed mushrooms and risotto to anyone.
