The Oppo(or Opposition) is the top rated restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon on a certain rival reviews website, and deservedly so. Making a refreshing change from ye olde pubs, the Oppo is a modern French bistro with a good a la carte menu and a generous daily specials menu too. When we arrived, at about 5pm, they were nearly full already with a pre-theatre crowd(we were going too), but were able to give us a table in an area near the back, which was lovely and private. We only had time to stay for a main course, but if I was in the area again I’d happily try starters and puddings too. My boyfriend ordered the pork belly from the a la carte, which looked delicious, and I went for the large portion of moules mariniere avec frites. To my pleasant surprise there was not a single closed mussel in the bowl, and not even any that you had to really pry open. Every one had opened beautifully. And they were priced very reasonably too, the pork belly was about £13.75 and the moules were a snip at less than £9. Fab! The Oppo is a great choice for a pre-theatre meal in Stratford-upon-Avon, so much better than many of the pubs in the area for similar prices. But you should book if you can, it’s very popular and you really don’t want to miss out.

This is really The Opposition and it’s quite a find. Serving dinner late, lovely staff, and really good food. Plus, the manager came around to tell me what was gluten free and what wasn’t. I had amazing pork, my boyfriend had beef stroganoff, both pretty good. The side of veg was totally tastless. BUT, the scallop special app was out of this world, and the toffee pudding(not Gluten Free, but I had to taste) was orgasmically yummy. Lovely!

an excellent pre theatre destination, could have easily chosen from a well priced prefix menu(£16 for 3courses), but was seduced by the ribeye steak, peppercorn sauce and chips,£18 but came with lovely roasted cherry toms and mushroom. glad i chose that as was as good a steak as ive had! and ive had a FEW! excellent range of homemade desserts which pleased my wife no end. even the afterdinner coffee was quality, and service was first class. will return!!!

Wonderful lunch with exemplary service. Interesting, imaginative menu. Excellent wine. For me, a main of pefectly cooked cod topped with Welsh rarebit on bubble and squeak, and for starters some of the best mozarella I’ve had in a perfect mozarella, tomato and basil salad. We’ll be back.

Stumbled on the oppo last time we went to see a play in stratford and im really glad we did! They serve food after the theatre lets out which is quite rare and the both the food and the service were fantastic. The prices were reasonable and the menu was simple with some great british food cooked really well. Lastly if you do go to the oppo make sure you visit the little bit of history in the bathroom that is a genuine thomas crapper toilet.
