One of the nicest Gastro pubs in the area. Proper espresso coffee too! Log fires, comprehensive menu and really good quality food. Definitely worth a visit. Staff very professional and welcoming too :)

Had a meal at the Dog and Doublet last Thursday night. The food and service was absolutely spot on. This pub has been taken over by the Lewis partnership and they have really stamped their name on it. What an improvement! I had a Rib Eye Steak with homemade chips — excellent. plans are in place for a complete refurbishment in the New Year — cant wait visit again

always been interested in going to the dog and doublet as many friends have spoke about the times spent there, but to avail my present evening wasnt to my expectations, okay we know its a fresh kitchen and you have too wait for your food abit myself i ordered tempura black pudding and the batter was slightly thick for tempura the kind of batter you would find in your local chippy around a haddock and it was on the tepid side of warm, my partners salad even though stated warm on the menu came out cold, when confronted the waitress looked blankly as we tried to explain what tempura batter was supposed to be like. We then waited over half an hour for our main courses whilst having to listen to an appaling rendition of The Rat Pack by a truly awful man who encroached upon people whilst they were eating. Upon receiving our manin meals, first impressions seemed good as the food looked appetising but we soon realised that the food was not what we thought it would be. I chose the Black Country Pork with Black Pudding which came out extremely overcooked and with the plastic packaging still attached to the black pudding. We had also ordered a rump steak to be cooked medium which was then served rare and on complaint it was sent back to the kitchen where it was microwaved and returned still not as ordered and with overcooked and also microwaved chips. After we had finished what little of the meals that was edible we explained to the staff what was wrong with the meals where we were told that the steak had not been microwaved as she had seen the chef put it back on the grill, having worked in catering for 16 years I can tell when something has been nuked!!! Then to our dismay we were told that there was not alot they could do for us, we could have chosen a free dessert or a bottle of house wine but still had to pay the full price of meals that we had hardly even touched. Thus to say that we will NOT be returning to the dog and doublet for food any time soon!!!

This pub has undergone a £300,000 refurbishment in 2004 hence it has large interesting glass fronted arch way viewing onto the road, and a very open plan feel inside(modern yet old) that attract stafford town people. The food has recieved positive reviews and the staff are most pleasant. The location is just off the A51, which is erm quite a bizzy road. If I was visiting this pub I would make a point of carefully poping over the road and watching some topping cricket. Jolly good old bean !!!
