I had a great reception as a fairly underground beast, a fretless guitarist, John(the proprierter) was utterly astounded at the concept of fretless guitar, and even more amazed that we lived about 500 metres away from each other and he had never heard of me. As they say in the film Casablanca, this could be the start of a beautiful relationship…

This is a great family run music shop that has a lovely atmosphere to it when you go in. I remember getting my clarinet reeds there when I was little. It has quite a big stock for a small store; the staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The nearest car park is either the station that gets pretty full or the town centre car parks making it about a 5 minutes walk from the Hardshaw centre. They also have a great notice board where you find out information about what is going on locally and maybe even join a band!

This is a great music shop, it has a great selection of stuf, which include amps, guitars-electric and acoustic. There have guitar strings, violins, drums, any musical instruments etc. It is a family run business, they are always very fiendly and willing to help you, i go in here maybe few times a year, most of the time near christmas as my boyfriend loves his guitars. The only downfall is that the shop is very small, but it makes up for it as the service is great.

This is a great independent music shop. I have been in to buy things in the staff and the staff are really helpful. There is a large selection of instruments on display but they could do with a bigger shop — because this one is tiny. The prices are quite competitive with the bigger chain of dawsons. They also have the usual notice board feature which you find in a lot of music shops where you can leave a note if your are looking to form a band/sell an instrument etc. There are plenty of accessories on offer in this place too ranging from fingerpicks, amps, guitar straps through to sheet music or new sets of strings. I really like the comfy feel of the place. It feels like the shop of a music loving family rather than a small business out to rip you off.

A true family owned music shop, almost every instrument in there that you could want and if by chance they dont have what your looking for they can get it for you within a couple of days. Sheet music and books a plenty. They also give music lesson. A bit tight for space inside because of the amount of things they stock but they make everyone feel at home.

Pete Darwin’s music shop is a traditional music shop in the truest sense. THis shop has stood the test of time. I used to go there every Saturday as a kid and hanker after the guitars that were hanging in the window. After, all these years the shop is still going strong and the beauty is that you get a truly personal service. Pete will advise you on the most suitable item for your needs Whether that be a 20p plectrum for your guitar or you’re after spending a grand on a guitar, drumset or amplifier. If it’s a music teacher you are looking for, then a reputable one will be recommended.
