Came here for a long awaited Sunday roast. Foolishly, just a few weeks prior we had rocked up without a reservation, and the only table available was on stilts and we would have sat on stools. Not deterred by this we made a reservation for a couple of weekends time. When we arrived the seating area was, typically, empty and we were give choice of where we wanted to sit, which I actually appreciate a lot. Just to say, all the other tables were reserved and full within 20 minutes of our arrival. The Sunday roast(£12.95 I think, plus extra for Yorkshire puds– yes we thought they are standard of a Sunday roast too!) was delicious and everything you would expect from a good Sunday roast in a pub. When initially served, a pang of worry struck as I thought the roast was on the small side. However, I was wrong and I was fine, my partner said he would have liked more lamb, but felt full on all the trimmings. We were very pleased with the service, our waitress was patient, friendly and knowledgeable about food and drink served here. I noticed that someone else commented that the staff here are casual, which I do agree. that’s exactly what I want in a pub. We would recommend the Cock Inn.

Cycled up from London to St. Albans and needed to find a place to have lunch… well, more specifically a Sunday Roast. I pulled out the Unilocal app and found the Cock Inn had good reviews so we went. They have a garden, however, it wasn’t obvious how to get in from the high street so we went inside to see if we could bring our bikes through the pub. the owner, Alan, was super welcoming to us and opened the back gate. I had a Sunday Roast — beef with all the trimmings. Veg were cooked well, Yorkshire pudding was the right consistency, not too soft, not too hard and tasted great. The beef was a great cut — all for only £12.95(maybe I’ve been living in London for too long! The atmosphere was great, lots of family and friend gatherings on Sunday — we were lucky to score a small table but all other tables were booked so definitely book ahead if you’re coming, especially on a Sunday afternoon. We ended up talking to Alan the owner for a bit — really great guy, and can definitely recommend this pub anytime you’re up in St. Albans. Fair prices, great food, and great service — 5 star for me.

Great food, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced! There is a promotion at the moment £9.95 for a 2 course dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays! Its’ an absolute bargain for what you get! Great place to visit for after work drinks. On the weekends the pub gets busy very quickly so don’t hesitate to grab a seat as soon as you see one. Beautiful back garden but not many people know about it… its fully heated and thanks to a few massive parasols its pretty much weather proof smokers paradise! Very good wine choice, real ale, larger(Peroni, Amstel, Staropramen etc), plus quite a few exotic bottled beers from around the world. Love it!

Good pub. Good food. This is not one of those plastic, manufactured theme gastro pubs. The food area is round the back, away from the pub side and the food itself is very interesting(I had crocodile one night) and delicious. The bar area is always popular. Dress to impress.

The wine(by the Glass) selection is vast and if there is something you want that’s not on the menu ask and they’ll have a look. Champaagne £4 and by the glass(not bad either) Great staff and good food — a lovely log fire in winter, a friendly welcome and at least 3 real ales. Thumbs up.

The Cock is one of the nicer pubs to eat out in, in St Albans. I’ve eaten here a few times and have enjoyed my meal each time. I particularly remember a very delicious and tender steak I ordered on one visit. I’ve also had very good lamb here. The wine selection is reasonably priced and the service is slick. The bar area is split into two, prior to the smoking ban, the smaller area was the non-smoking area while the larger tended to very quickly become hazy with smoke. At weekends, it’s probably a good idea to book a table, particularly for larger groups.

This is a nice place to hang out in the beergarden, even in winter as it is heated. They have a decent selection of wines and beers and usually about 4 guest ales on offer. The food is rather pricey but worth the money on the occasion.

I have eaten at the Cock several times and the food is always fantastic. They do a great value lunch menu, aswell as a daily changing a la carte, service is friendly and efficient and the garden is fantastic. In my opinion you won’t find a better place to eat in St. Albans.
