I visited the Adnams shop for some local ales and was able to taste a few. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful about the beers ales and wines. The shop is well laid out and light and airy. A good shopping experience and I’ll definitely pop back for more ales. The gin is definitely worth the money. Just saying…

Really great display in the shop, some quirky kitchen gadgets too collapsible kettle, brilliant. Nearly bought the dog an enamel Adnams food bowl until I turned it over and saw the price £18. The crab salad was excellent, sandwiches are all bread and no filling. Not sure if I would go back though.

I reported two weeks ago on the café at Buckenham Art Gallery in Southwold, which was my choice at the time as my wife fancied trying this one. So two weeks later we came here for lunch, this time with adult daughter as well. The café section(indeed also the shop) were rather busy with the atmosphere of a railway station café, but I guess that was to be expected on a Saturday. We all ordered a Jacket Potato(a tad expensive at £6.75), one with ham/cheese, one with tune/mayo and one with prawn /mayo, together with beverages. What a disppointment. They arrived in reasonable time but with hardly a calorie of heat in them, and the accompanying salad very tired and wilted, even the coleslaw looked to be going off. Absolutely disgraceful for a company with the name of Adnams. The kitchen and wine shop is rather interesting particularly for those with a penchant for fine wine, but this was no compensation for the very dissatifactory lunch. A pity I have to give such a poor report for my 100th post ! It will back to the Buckenham next time.

We visited the Adnams shop really to see what they had in their cookware section and we both bought things … it would have been easy to spend a lot more as lots of things caught our eyes. Adnams is a very large importer of wine and the selection available at the store is very good. There’s also a wide range of their beers available in every conceiveable quantity from bottles to metal kegs. The strong brand image is well represented too on a wide range of products and I think the quality of them is good. We were hoping to have a quick tea and cake in the café but it had just closed.

Adnams of Southwold is famous for it’s beers and characterful pubs. Recently they have opened a string of Cellar and Kitchen Stores across East Anglia. They(obviously) sell their own beers a good range of wines and stylish kitchenware and gifts. We visited the Southwold store on a trip to the town and ate at their café. What a disappointment! We had spent they day walking around Suffolk and we were both quite hungry and as I was feeling a little festive I chose the warm Turkey, stuffing & cranberry baguette. This conjured up cosy memories of Christmas day evening meals and left over turkey sandwiches. Unfortunately my nostalgic flashbacks of Christmas were shattered. The turkey was extremely dry, the stuffing was Paxo and it was dolloped with far too much cranberry jelly, which I’m sure was just a jar from Tesco or worse. It was served with crisps and a nice looking salad which unfortunately turned out to be limp and lifeless as it had been soaking in some sickly sweet balsamic dressing for far too long. The baguette was nice and warm but of the part bake type that slices open the roof of your mouth which may possibly require stitches. The café and building itself was very well designed and laid out. It has apparently been designed in line with Adnams environmental policy and they have incorporated a sedum roof from which water is harvested. Unfortunately the building seems to waste energy with air conditioning, and hundreds of standard light bulbs, not one energy saving light bulb in sight! Hugely dissapointing for Southwolds most famous business in their home town.
