V Café and Sushi Bar

I visited V-​café recently on a rare day-​trip to Southport with my girlfriend. We popped in because my girlfriend was having post-​hangover rumblings and it seemed like a cool place to try out.
Connected to the Vincent Hotel, the V-​café seems more ‘restaurant’ than ‘café’. However, I expect this is to attract a larger clientele base; these posh hotels can be slightly intimidating after all. We arrived just before 1pm and were asked if we’d made a reservation. When the room filled up at around half past 1, we realised there might actually be a reason for reservations at lunch time. This place is popular.
My girlfriend, still feeling slightly delicate from the night before, ordered the ‘homemade beans on thick buttered toast’. The menu is extensive and interesting, but we both stayed away from the sushi side of the menu (I ordered the Vincent club, probably the best version of a ‘club’ sandwich I’ve ever had.) preferring to stick with what we know. It is a little pricey, but the food you’re getting really is excellent. The attention to detail throughout the «café» is also impressive, from the decoration of the food to the –v– sign found on just about everything. They also do a «beat the clock» offer between Sunday and Friday 3pm-​7pm, where the time of your order dictates the price you will pay for a pizza or pasta. The atmosphere was great at lunchtime, although I would be hesitant to visit of an evening as I can imagine it being exceedingly busy.

This place makes me go VVVVVVVVVVVV. I have a lot of time for this Victorian seaside town. I could describe it as a sleepy town, but I won’t! I would however say it is a town that is pretending to sleep! It doesn’t want to be found out, it doesn’t want to turn into a Blackpool! So shush, keep your visits to here hush hush! Why? The place is teaming with culinary activity. V for Vincent Café and sushi bar is just such an example. This is just the surface though people, come and explore this town and you will uncover treasure after treasure.
This place is linked with the Vincent hotel, which deserves a review itself and I cannot wait to book a room on my next Port Sud adventure.
Being part of a hotel you can bet your botom dollar the place is up at dawn. So if you are enjoying a break in Southport, whether your staying at their hotel or not you can rest assured they’ll be serving delicious continental breakfasts from the crack of dawn.
Lunch time sushi is probably more of its trademark charms. Now I’m not too hot on sushi, never have ben. I do however occasionally delve into raw fish. I can report that the Miso Soup is rather nice. The place is also an intimate stop shop for a nice meal with candle lit, relaxed ambience and a global menu. It even has an outdoor bit for those sunny days!!! Bosh!

Sushi? In Southport?!? I thought I’d seen it all when I bumped into a Subway and Nando’s here, I certainly didn’t think it had become THAT modern. Well, it would seem that the suburbanites of this small town have jumped on the raw fish bandwagon and are now enjoying sashimi and seaweed like us proper city folk. Don’t think I’m putting Southport down here, I’m not. It’s just a surprise… kind of if a sleek cocktail bar turned up in the middle of Emmerdale.
Well, clearly Southport has moved with the times, but there’s still a bit of a climb, because unfortunately the sushi kind of reminded me of those plastic packets I yoink whenever I’m feeling peckish in Tesco. The service leaves a little to be desired too, it’s somewhat strange and unorganised and the littlest thing seems to send the staff into a tizz. The prices are a little crazy too. I can’t say it’s really my favourite restaurant in the world, but hopefully lessons will be learned and the place will steadily improve…
