This place is off the beaten track in a rougher side of town, but I would highly recommend this place to visiting American golfers for a really nice selection of food — surf & turf was fantastic and the chicken dish that the other person in my party had was really great as well. Excellent Irish coffee with poured cream on top as well :-)

Fresh seafood and excellent steak. Hidden down an alley of East-Bank St it is a challenge to find, but it is worth it in the end. The owner and manager take high pride in their establishment and waited on us themselves, making sure our every need was catered for.

This is an exceptionally wonderful place. It’s really special and the service is the best I’ve ever received. The food is always 100% excellent. Recommended.

Billed as ‘Southport’s premier seafood and steak restaurant’, it would be easy to miss Forge Brasserie as it is rather hidden down a tiny side street off Eastbank Street. However, those brave enough to go down the pokey back road its on will find themselves rewarded with a lovely dining experience, complimented by helpful and friendly waiting staff as well as delicious cooking using locally grown ingredients. As I said, Forge advertise themselves primarily as a fish restaurant, so it’s no surprise to find their menu dominated by fish and other seafood dishes. I’m not a big fan of seafood generally but I love fish and have found some of the dishes at Forge are both interesting and tasty, such as the halibut steak and the grilled Dover sole, which although expensive is worth the price. Aside from seafood and fish dishes, their meat menu is similarly impressive as it boasts a good variety of options including roast duck as well as a good range of different steaks. The restaurant may not be in the best location in Southport but it’s worth putting that to one side and giving Forge a go, particularly if you’re a seafood and fish fan.

Talk about range! Oh my word, this place really does have every fish you could possibly imagine. It did make me think that I need to become more adventurous with the type of fish that I eat. These generally include salmon, trout, cod, pollock and tuna. But there really is so much more! I have never tried oysters or lobster or mussels. I don’t think I will ever try mussels! Every thursday there is a promotion night — thank fish it’s thursday — and on tuesday ‘s a meat promotion evening. I know which one I prefer — thursday!

A hidden gem in Southport’s back streets, don’t let the name fool you — it’s the genuine article, no forgery to be found here. It’s super duper excellent in fact. You’ll get lovely traditional Brit food in here as well as a fantastic variety of very fresh seafood. In fact the catches of the day are available to view in an open fridge, and that ambience of openness continues right through to the open kitchen where you can see the dishes being created. The prices are really reasonable, especially if you take advantage of some of the special offers, and the service is lovely. But even though it’s something of a concealed weapon be sure to book in advance. The place is nicely bustling even during the day and it’s more than popular, so be careful!

Hidden in the back streets of Southport the Forge is a very well kept local secret. The menu is a great mix of fresh seafood and fine British cuisine. All the food is cooked in a open kitchen and all that day’s catch is on display in a large chiller. Get there before 6pm and you’ll be able to take advantage of the early bird menu which offers great prices for some fine food. Always book your table because even at lunchtime the place is likely to be full.
