I like this place good food, good atmosphere, not too bad on the drinks side. I always have a good time here and right next to Mayhem even better!

Pros. Cheap, Airy, Good for looking out of, near town, good Chinese next door, loads of T. Vs, no cappys allowed . Cons. Stinks of smoke outside as you come in and go out. Toilets are 1000 steps away. Like climbing Everest. Get caught short and your in big trouble. Cold in winter.

Very good value food, you get a lot for your money. In the evenings it gets very busy and drinks are quite pricey. Often hard to find somewhere to sit down.

A moderate place to eat, though it does sometimes get annoying having to barge through a load of students dossing around at night times. If you go for a meal during the day, it’s not too bad, and the staff are polite and helpful, that being said; the food is nothing to write home about and wouldn’t recommend it if asked by friends or family. The lighting also seems very dimly lit, even during the day, and makes the place seem very dark and depressing too.

Great bar in middle of southend. Great for watching live footy as loads of big screens. Families welcome during the day and early evening. Good bar in evening probably best in Southend town centre. Prices reasonable. Great staff.

Its not often that I give a place a 5 star rating but this bar is very deserving of it. One of the best Varsity bars I have been to, offers a great atmosphere and very friendly staff that make the best hot chocolates going! Ideal place for students. Opposite a bus stop and you really cannot miss this place, if you did my recommendation would be to ask where it is as it is that great! Toilets are generally well kept and are located upstairs but there is a disabled toilet downstairs if you require it. Always packed for the football and rightly so as they have over ten screens, one of which is a wall projection that is so big the score can be read by people walking past the bar! Lots of seats available and great pub food which is always hot and gets to your table very quickly. Bar can get very busy but only when there is live sports on or its a Saturday night, but screens are behind the bar aswell so your not going to miss those important goals while you are waiting to be served. Strict on who they serve but welcome families upto 6pm. The bar generally closes at midnight so its the perfect place to go to before heading on to a nightclub. Cheap drinks and great food, a Varsity card is essential which can be bought for £2 from the bar and comes with a book of vouchers for various deals such as a free corkys shot and a free hot chocolate/tea/coffee. This really is the place to be seen and is my favourite bar in Southend. Strongly recommended to anyone!
