Warm, gentile and friendly, the No. 4 is a nice coffee bar which serves well roasted coffees and hot sandwiches.
The staff I was served by were both great coffee makers, as well as nice chatty guys. They had their own friends in but were up like a shot any time anyone came in or got up to go to the bar.
They have a happy hour for alcoholic drinks, and a decent menu of warm food to be washed down.
The interior is a functional shabby chic replete with thick armchairs and deep couches. Warm wood and good lighting is the perfect accompaniment to the space.
If you want good coffee and a relaxing space you could do far worse than No. 4.

This must be the nicest coffee shop in Southampton — awesome selection, very friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, and a variety of things going on in the evenings. I would like a better website and events listings as it’s hard to keep up to date with all that they have on but from what I have seen I can say this is a great place to go during the day or in the evening.

This is a lovely secret of Southampton. When other places in and around Ocean Village are to crowded and impersonal the No 4 can pick you up. I myself am a keen coffee drinker and if rather hit this place up then mainstream Starbucks. The drinks are standard for this area of town but offer a good range of cider in addition to the norm up market beers.
I did look over the menu and although it lack some inspiration I have no bought that if tried it would be very good (judging on how it looks).
The staff are friendly and can also be a nice place to sit and do lap top work with a drink. In essence… A better choice then any other market sharer.
