Brits love their walks, their parks, and the ocean. On my recent visit to Southampton, I went to Lepe Country park for a typical walk on the beach. While it was sunny, it was extremely blustery and temps were quite chilly: but I held my chin up [the best I could against the wind and the cold] and joined the Brits in their pastime. This location is a lovely combination of beach and park, so families can enjoy a swim [in warmer temps] and a picnic. There are spacious green lawns to play and roam and rest, as well as sand beach to explore, and even historical sites to visit. Lepe beach was one of the launch points for troops and equipment for the Normandy invasion in 1944: there are a number of plaques and boards along the beach detailing the historical role of this area. You can watch boats sail down the Solent Strait, and sit and enjoy the lovely views across the water. I’m told sunsets here are spectacular… Depending on when you are visiting, you can stop at the beach café for snack and beverage. The drive to and from the park also takes you by the New Forest, where you see wild ponies roam. Quite lovely, indeed…
