My wife and I stayed at the White Lion for 2 nights last year and loved it. We had a lovely room, the staff were friendly and food(and ale!) was really good. We enjoyed an evening stroll round the picturesque village too. Recommended.

Nice little pub whereby there is a restaurant area and another area for the pub goers. I would like to see more comfy seating in the bar area, but this isn’t possible due to its small size. There is a real log fire in the bar area, which provides a cosy and homely feel. On the weekends there is often a live band. The owners of the pub are friendly and are able to recommend wines. I am becoming a regular of this place, and will update my review when I try the food. There is also ample free car parking to the side of the pub.

The location of this pub is great, as there aren’t any other independents anywhere near the area. This means that any passers by will immediately notice the old fashioned building when driving down the many country lanes of Hampton-In-Arden.(Or maybe it is a little out of the way? I’ve not decided) From the outside, I noticed that the restaurant had been recommended by Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed at the time, but this approval gave me great confidence in entering the pub area at the front. As I walked through the main door, everybody in the entire pub and lounge area glared at me, and this included the staff behind the bar too. I felt very awkward and uneasy, as I was hoping to be warmly welcomed to ponder at their selection of alcohol. But I could still feel the burn of eyes staring from every direction even as I stood at the counter. At a glance, the alcohol seemed very generic, and the only rum behind the bar that I could see was Captain Morgans. But I was only looking at the alcohol at a glance, because I wanted to purchase a drink quick so that I could sit and hide in the corner, away from the rather ‘clicky’ locals and regulars. I only bought one drink and left immediately after finishing it. If the staff want new customers to enjoy themselves and spend money, they need to be more encouraging to get people to stay. Maybe the restaurant area contains more friendly, cheery staff when this section is open. But from my experience, I felt very much like an outsider.

Good food here, definitely a gastro pub /restaurant, not a real pub. Nice friendly staff though and decent(kid friendly) atmosphere. Prices reasonable for the area, I went in for lunch and it was right nice. They serve Lavazza coffee too and do it well.
