It’s just a local pub in a very tranquil setting. I jog there when I have time off work just so I have an A to B route, sometimes stop for a coke and head back. I love the canal so it’s nice to have somewhere close(beside’s the horse shoe). If you fancy a pint, with a nice setting, this is where to land.

We stopped at this place during our canal cruise when we were looking for somewhere to eat. The pub is a typical old pub in the countryside, looking a little tired and run down with a stock standard chain pub menu as part of ‘Flaming Grill pubs’. I had a food allergy which the kitchen were really good about and made sure to check the ingredients on the packet but it’s clear nothing is really created here. It seems it’s all just out of a packet and heated up. I had the cauliflower and cheese tart which was actually quite nice, and was gluten free. In fact all menu items are marked with gluten free, vegetarian etc signs which is good. The rest of the group ate the Roast Beef Sunday Roast which no one particularly enjoyed — the meat was like a big slab of processed meat, not sliced and really tasted very processed. It really didn’t taste good. The gravy was nice enough but there was a lot of oil sitting on the top. The veges were good, carrots, peas, cauliflower and potatoes. Potato skins and fries were nice too. Service was decent though when we ordered three roasts we checked twice she had marked down three roast meals yet when the food came out only one appeared and only one had been put through on the order. As we were in a rush we weren’t particularly impressed especially as the food genuinely wasn’t great. So its okay for some not so decent food of you’re passing by on a canal boat but personally I’d keep going and find something decent.

The Drawbridge is lovely place to have a beverage on a warm, sunny day whilst watching the barges go down the cannel. In fact it’s a nice pub to go to any time of year. In the Winter it’s nice and warm and gives a cosy atmosphere. The Drawbridge is my local and with a cannel and draw bridge in the countryside, it’s easy to see where the name came from. Although the drinks are a little expensive, the pub is great all year round. In the summer you can sit outside and admire the scenery as the boats come up and down the cannel or sit inside and enjoy the refreshing breeze. For the amount of people they have during the nice weather they don’t have enough outdoor seating, which is a bit of a shame. The food at the Drawbridge is tasty and I’d recommend the Sunday roast. I found the bar staff to be helpful although they didn’t appear interested in giving me service.

My fellow reviewer Hitesh has posed the question why people always talk about the Drawbridge Inn. I will aim to answer this momentarily. Firstly, the basics: The Drawbridge Inn is a decent pub, with food reasonable price(look for the particular ‘food of the night’ e.g. burger night on Wednesdays). The clientèle can be a little rowdy at times, but it always serves for a good atmosphere. As the name suggests, the pub is right by a drawbridge, meaning plenty of canal boats drifting by, which makes for an idyllic setting. But back to Hitesh’s question. There is a reason for this pub’s reputation, and I reckon it’s got something to do with its monumental eating challenge, the flaming grill burger. Comprising of two mammoth beef burgers, two southern fried chicken fillets, bacon, cheese, and chilli beef, as well as 6 onion rings and a veritable mountain of chips. Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘That doesn’t sound so bad, I could do that’. Well, good sir or madam, with all due respect, you have literally no idea what you’re talking about. I have never eaten so much, and I hope I never will again. Think you can eat? Get down to the Drawbridge Inn and prove your metal.

Not sure why this pub is always talked about? It’s an average pub serving normal beers, nothing special here. Apparently its a locals favourite. why I ask? If your a regular then please post your review. I want to hear more about this place.

I like the location of this pub as the name gives away I have often seen barges passing by on the canal. Most of the staff are friendly. The food is good and they have offers on most of the time. No fire and can be a bit cold some nights

We no longer go to this pub for several reasonds. The food is rubbish generally arriving cold or overcooked, never inbetween. We have lost money on the quiz machine because the staff always refuse to refund money when it goes wrong.
