The market hall is a large area with temporary stalls in the middle; around the outside are permanent smaller shops that range from butchers to fabrics. You can get all manner of fresh produce here but note this is a functional everyday market that sells functional everyday items. If you are looking for a craftier, fashionable place I would head to the parade shopping centre instead.

The market hall is a great place to pick up food– meats, ready made meals from the butcher, breads, fruits and vegs etc but is a bit lacking in other stores. There are a few clothes shops, an antique shop, a book shop and up the stairs a cake shop and a record shop. Is certainly worth a wander through as it also has a great atmosphere and some bargains to be had.

There are loads of small stores in the market. Ones that come and go downstairs –in the middle — fruit and veg etc and then fixed one around the edge and upstairs. Good bargains to be had for selected things but not the easiest of stores to take things back to if it’s simply the wrong size or the wrong colour. There are a few shops in the town that also use the market to sell their goods in that way. There is always a good cheap sweetie shop where you can pick and mix at a much reduced price than on the high street. Well worth a visit if you like sweets!
