Café Saffron was really good. I ordered the Flamingo Chicken and it was great. Not too hot but enough bite that you could taste it. The staff did as best a job as they could while catering to a party of 28 that was next to us. They got us in without reservations, which was awesome. The saffron rice was tasty and went well with the chicken plate. The garlic naan was a bit buttery, but hey, overall a great meal.

We had a company dinner here so it was not my choice to go here. But, what a wonderful treat. The nice part of coming here with a large group is to be able to sample some of the other dishes that you may not order. Everything tasted wonderful and was nicely prepared as well. All the little condiments that showed up on the table had great flavors. I tend to eat«take-out» Indian food back home(USA) so it’s not fair to compare this true restaurant with my home place. But it really seems like they are taking Indian food to a higher level here. The use of the Indian spices seem to have some care applied. Don’t get me wrong, these dishes were causing more than a few sniffles from the spices! But there was flavor behind those spices. Staff took very good care of our group. Water glasses filled, re-order of drinks delivered, dishes brought out promptly. They had some nice beers on tap. I’m going to come back here when in town for work.

This restaurant is wrongly labelled as a café. The décor is drab and cheap and feels more like a school canteen than an indian restaurant. The staff all have prison haircuts, ear studs and sovereign rings which look like they could end up in a plate of food quite easily. Their uniforms look like they were stolen from top shop during the riots and none of them seemed to want to be there. My girlfriend and i were not greeted upon entry, there were a lot of staff milling around aimlessly and the resultant was only half full. We had to wait for 10 minutes for a table which we only got after I had to grab some stoned looking waiter. The menu isn’t clear or concise. We were rushed to eat our starters. Our main course arrived almost too soon. My girlfriends chicken was still pink in the middle and while we were eating at least 3 different waiters came to hurry is along eventually snatching our food from in front of us(probably because it needed to be recycled and given to the party of scantly glad underage girls who had just arrived). We were then ignored for another 20 minutes and had to ask for the bill 3 times before getting up and having to grab a waiter from behind the bar. And they even had to cheek to keep a £1 tip. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone just on the grounds of food hygiene. In terms of customer service one could probably expect better from a Guatemalan prison!

I’ve eaten at Safron many times over the last year and will continue to do so. They’ve got a great menu and a very good chef. They make much of their ‘hot’ curry, made from the Nagre chili. Before I was allowed to order it, I had to sign a waiver to say that it was my problem if the heat of the chili brought my mouth up in ulcers, or if it caused me to blackout — both of which have been known to happen with the mighty nagre chili. I ate the lot and thoroughly enjoyed it, but this isn’t for the feint hearted. On the downside, the restaurant is up three short flights of stairs and the décor is a little shabby. That siad, I’d happily recommend it and will be returning there again soon — every other Thursday, in fact. I would have given 3.5 stars, but it wouldn’t let me.

Recommended to me as a great Indian restaurant in Shrewsbury, and I recommend it to you After asking at our hotel reception about somewhere close by to get an Indian meal, we received a clear recommendation for the Café Saffron and we got to view there outstanding website. We had a reservation made for us by the hotel and went along, We were welcomed at the door and when we mentioned the reservation had been made for us by the hotel our booking was found and we were quickly shown to a window table. The décor on the first floor is red and saffron coloured and featured subdued lighting. The menu is very extensive, but even so it did not help with making a decision as the descriptions of the food sounded wonderful(but then. they would wouldn’t they). We made our choices and the food was delivered to our table after a short wait. The food was a wonderful as described on the menu and the lamb in the” luhari special«we had was melt in the mouth tender. Heartily recommended to anyone who enjoys Indian cuisine, you will find some new and fantastic dishes here. Check there website out Video link:
