Great place with such lovely staff. Had breakfast and lunch on different occasions and I enjoyed both of them! The muffins are huge and very good. Also had a very nice Sussex Platter with different selections.

Yet another beautiful day, so decided to breakfast out yesterday. Chose to do it here and what a good choice! Very light and airy, and is well laid out inside. Outside, there is adequate space to eat. The Coast breakfast will set you up for the morning with Sussex bacon, scrambles, mushrooms, toms, baked beans and toastcor blimey! However Lyn chose the bagel with smoked salmon and scrambles. The Coast is situated in pedestrianised shopping mall, albeit small, and right next door to Teddy’s.another good place to eat. Both are to be recommended.

Hang on. When did Shoreham by Sea become all modern and metro? It seems that a good few business owners here have taken influence from Brighton’s trendy stripped-out cafes and maybe a little from Steyning’s faux rustic charm for the outer London commuter belt. One such business is Toast by the Coast. This is a calm comfortable café-cum-delicatessen frequented by the well-to-do Yummy Mummies of Shoreham. They have a great selection of cheese among other things and the coffee is definitely up to par. With couches in the centre and table seating dotted about this it a great place to come for that mid-morning catch up after the school run or to sit engrossed in the paper for half an hour or so before you begin the rest of your day. The food all has the locally sourced and ethical push going for it but like many of the places in Steyning I can’t help but feel that it’s more of a fad for those who can afford it than ethics for people who really care. Peckish as I was I thought I might indulge in a little Toast, while I was indeed by the Coast. But at two pounds for two slices I couldn’t even begin to justify it. If their toast is a pound a slice how much does it cost to locally source a loaf of bread?

Great little café with an equally great name. This isn’t by any way a ‘greasy spoon’ place. Everything is locally sourced and not deep fried in lard. The bacon and eggs come from Sussex and the smoked salmon for the bagels is smoked in near-by Henfield. The café is actually licensed(always a huge bonus in my book) so if you fancy a bit of a boozy lunch or a hang-over curing brunch, this place is ideal. They also hire the venue out for parties. It only holds 50 people in total(upstairs and downstairs) but I think that’s a perfect number of people.
