Comfiest. Seats. Ever. Monday’s films have descriptive subtitles for hard of hearing folks, which is great. My only downer in an otherwise lovely little cinema, is that the candy cola bottles are a bit weird. It’s the most minor of niggles, and otherwise only skips out of a five star review by being a tiny bit cold in terms of décor and not being the Genesis in Whitechapel.

I am always a supporter of smaller, art house cinemas. The poor little things are being over ruled by 3D screens and plush, recliner, couples seating. And the cost of going to cinemas these days… ridiculous! Anyway, it was the Easter long weekend, the clouds had covered Sheffield in a dulling grey and my brother, sister-​in-​law and I were in need of some entertainment. So we went and saw Locke at The Showroom Cinema.
It wasn’t busy so we were able to get tickets quickly and headed down into the surprisingly large room. It was clean, comfy and the screen and sound quality were great. Everything you could want in a cinema with that good ‘local’ feel.
According to my brother, their ice cream is fantastic but our excess Easter egg consumption meant we avoided additional sugar. Also, the restaurant connected to the cinema is supposed to serve some great food but I am yet to try. One day…

I like the showroom a lot! It has a great selection of both mainstream and Independent films, they also have a classics period where you can see old films. I had the pleasure of seeing braindead on the big screen years ago and I think they are playing Cronenburg’s classic Scanners this month. They also have talks and Q&A sessions which can be really interesting. Again the bar can be rather pretentious but really its a bar that sells alcohol in a great indie cinema. Really worth a visit, 5 stars.

The Showroom is a good addition to the cinemas Sheffield has to offer, with the rather sad and rundown Odeon in the town centre and the massive Cineworld out in Centertainment. It tends to show more low-​budget and arthouse films and often has themed seasons where older films are given an airing.
They also host a lot of talk with the director style evenings where the screenings are preceded with a question and answer session.
I believe it is compulsory to have a beard to work here but the staff are always chilled and friendly.
The tickets are more expensive than other cinemas, but the choice of films is wider than others.

Lovely ‘artsy-​feel’ cinema, restaurant, bar and music venue. This independent cinema promises to have at least 1 film to interest anyone looking for a nice break from commercial rom-​coms and chic-​ficks.
The Showroom café/​bar has fab food, and reasonably priced drinks, with a great atmosphere to accompany.

This is quite possibly the best art-​house cinema in the UK and yes, I’ve been to the Cornerhouse. Four screens show an eclectic mix of independent European, US and British films and documentaries in very comfortable, purpose built auditoria. If it’s reviewed in the Guardian it’ll be on at the Showroom (and usually within a month of release).
The ticket office and concessions area is light, airy and sells a good range of drinks. Clientele are mixed with, as you’d expect, lots of students, but they all seem serious about film I can’t remember asking people to keep the noise down on too many occasions
Staff are good but there’s a propensity to employ youngsters who I suspect think that what they have is a career in cinema rather than a job selling tickets or coffee.
There’s also a good (if expensive) bar on site which also attracts a mixed crowd.

This is a great independent cinema; it shows a range of films from foreign, indie to the odd big budget picture. It also hosts the documentary festival that is held in the city. Located opposite Sheffield Hallam Union Bar it regularly attracts students.
It also has its own bar restaurant which serves great food from a small menu. The food prices are average for town. The bar prices are not the best but the hot chocolate is rather nice.
The bar is a little canteen like. Also the screens are fairly small if you want to go and see a big budget film on the big screen you would be better going to one of the bigger cinemas near Meadowhall.
They do offer the facility of hiring out a screen though! And can show a film of your choice which can make special events a bit more different.

I love art-​house cinemas, and this one fails to disappoint. The seats are comfortable and you get some good leg room, and the screen isn’t massive but you still feel like you’re at the cinema! They do some great foreign films here and I usually pop in to see the latest French film that’s on. There’s a bar next door for a pre– or post-​film drink, and it’s right next to the train station for easy access.

I love The Showroom.
By providing an indie cinema, it’s doing such a great thing for Sheffield culture. For instance, The Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival couldn’t exist without it.
There’s a great range of film that the nearby multiplex doesn’t provide, and the cool café bar provides free jazz & blues sessions as well as being a great late night venue in its own right.
The location is handy, being right by the train station and it’s also a really good place to eat.
In fact, if you’re in Sheffield and the Showroom is new to you, you should be asking yourself, Why haven’t I been yet?

I can only confirm MsMoll’s impression of the place. The Showroom can boast a tremendous and very varied film programme with films from all over the world. During my membership, this used to be my second home.
Somtimes, there are even sofa sessions with directors. You ought to know that Sheffield has got a vivid and vibrant film culture.

A place to see the best UK and World cinema, have a wine/​beer/​coffee, a chat to friends (and make new ones), eat good food and generally relax. Free wireless internet (I’m sat in the bar typing this now!).
