Now part of the Sizzler chain, The Norton used to be a Beefeater that had slightly lost its way. Now, The Norton specialises in cheap food and reasonably-priced beer. As another reviewer has mentioned, the quality of the food varies. The steaks are very good value for money and a safe bet, but any deviation from these seems to panic the chefs! I’ve never seen fewer vegetables on a Salmon and Med Veg meal than I have up there. They also have a habit of burning the garlic bread which is incredibly annoying. The servers are reasonable enough when you bring mistakes to their attention, but sometimes there are things that should be picked up on before food leaves the kitchen. The availability of some beers can also be very hit and miss and every time I’ve been up there, Timmy Taylor’s Landlord has been off. Can I suggest that they perhaps increase their order of it? Anyway, you get what you pay for. It might be worth avoiding when there’s football on if you’re out for a nice meal.

For a chain pub, The Norton has somehow managed to retain quite a bit of character and atmosphere. It’s very big, with lots of seats, and specialises in sizzler meals — steaks, chicken etc. served on a sizling platter. Despite this specialisation, they also provide a large and varied menu of other types of non sizzling food. One good feature of the food here, is that different portion sizes can be ordered, either small, regular or large. I think this is a great option for a family meal, where elderly people, children, and growing teenagers can all be catered for easily, each getting the amount they require. The food here is quite cheap, with main meals from about £3 up. The décor of the pub is rather modern, with different areas of the pub having different moods created by varied levels of seating and furnishings. Aswell as being a dedicated food pub, The Norton also serves as a very busy local pub, there are twice weekly quizes, fancy dress nights and a pool table. It’s always lively later in the night, but usually family friendly. Overall, this is a good pub for familys wanting to eat on a budget, but at somewhere a little more homely that a Wetherspoons or other chain pub. It’s also great for the locals that live around the area.

Not a bad boozer. Gets very busy and rowdy at times but not as popular as it’s been in the past. The food is hit and miss. It’s a very large pub since it’s been extended and seats a large number of people. Beer range is very limited. Prices are quite fair.
