It’s an Indie club/gig venue. You know what to expect– black walls, sticky floor, reasonably priced drinks in plastic glasses, a chilled out atmosphere. We went along in a big group on a Saturday night for a hen do. We had rung ahead and they had agreed to give us queue jump tickets, a discounted entry price and a free bottle of ‘fizz’ for the bride. The bouncer on the door was really friendly and helpful with this. Obviously the fizz was perry or something like that, but hey, it was free. In the big room there was contemporary and classic indie. In the smaller room there was 60’s soul. It wasn’t jam packed but there were enough people to give it atmosphere. This meant there wasn’t much of a queue for the bar. I had a fun night here and I’m pleased I’ve been as I know it’s a bit of a Sheffield institution. Would definitely go out here again if I was in Sheffield. It’s not going to be for everyone but if you like dancing to Indie/60’s music you will like it!

I have been to this club a few times in the past and its generally what you expect from a standard indie club. The drinks prices are reasonable and varied. however the cues are always far too long at the door staff are not the friendliest people in the world. I would say its better for gigs than a club.

great place to chill with friends and i do so my self. thay have great music, with fresh new and old bands playing daily. the location of the club is really good, and is no more then 5 to 10 walk from the town to train station what ever your ability. it can get a little rough on Saturday nights but that’s expected of a city club right?

Nice club, worth a visit. Drinks are cheap and has a good atmosphere inside. Only problem is that it is removed from the city centre proper, but it is still worth a trip if you fancy a cheap night out on the town. 2 min walk from train station and Hallam University.

Not far from the train station this is an intimate venue with the likes of Lilly Allen and Arctic monkeys plus many more appearing. drinks aren’t too expensive here either

Went there last weekend as part of Tramlines Festival, which is a Free music festival in Sheffield that spans over 70 venues. I reckon this was probably the best place I went to, as there seems to be a great atmosphere around the place, which is helped by the excellent quality of sound in the venue. The cloakroom is £1 per item, which may be fairly over-priced but it is a much-needed facility which seems to be missing from other music venues in the area. It may not be the biggest place to see live music in Sheffield, but it’s possibly the best!

A bit of a hit and miss club. Not a classy place. Better known for the bands tht play there. However, go on a busy night and the mixture of half decent music and atmosphere will not disappoint

Good student nightclub. Has been open forever. Be prepared for extensive queues, though. Entry fees are very reasonable and the drinks are extremely cheap. Probably the best night is the tactfully named ‘SHAG’ on Mondays.

A large, dark, noisy room.

«Oh what a night … do doooo … late December back in ’63 …» As a Chesterfield raised scamp, Sheffield is the nearest city for me to rock when I head back up North(Yes! I know it’s grim up there!) and catch up with my hometown bluds. We often decide to hit the streets Sheffield in order to drastically reduce the likelihood of getting our collective(pretty boy) faces rearranged by Chesterfield’s meatheads. So on Saturday we hit«Sonic Boom» night at the Leadmill, which was absolutely class! The Club itself is pretty BIG with a main dance floor where there was a DJ racking up the 80’s, 90’s and more recent indie tunes. Proper classic tunes. Always good to get a good stomp onto. And then there is a smaller room next door which was dedicated to spitting out older classics from the 70’s which after a good drunkard, fist-pelting, body wriggling warm up in the main room became our floor of preference. I danced and pranced so hard in there I fell over twice and evidently left my voice echoing around the club’s walls, as I’m a temporary mute today. This place provides a good weighty hangover without busting you bank account wide open: It was only a £iver to get in and the drinks were reasonably priced, which kept us going ’til 3 in the AM when the place closed up. Best thing I found about the night was the crowd. 50⁄50 split of male to female, everyone happy to let themselves go, didn’t see any aggro and everyone was up for it. Good age range from pre-pubescent students to 30summets. Will definitely be heading back for some more mentalist dancing on the concrete floors of this place. Ger’ involved!

Been here a few times and it has always been good. It is for the students as stated and I do not know what I would think of it if I was to go now a few years later. Have some good memories of bands here a couple of years ago.

Used to come to the Leadmill all the time, back in my student days. Not the cleanest of places, toilets leave a lot to be desired but all in all, the leadmill offers some top quality club nights and gigs. Cheap gigs and quick service at the bar, worth a visit for any visitors to Sheffield

This is a great place for night life from live music to club nights. It has very good student nights during the week with cheap drinks and with good music. Also at the weekend the prices are average but are not expensive. There are two rooms where music is played normally of different genres. So if one doesn’t suit your taste try the other! It is useful to check out what the music theme is before going just in case you want RnB and they are playing cheesy pop! It is a great place for live music, securing great acts to play, main time being October to November and March to April but has acts playing regularly between. Its always worth checking out the website to see who is coming. The set up for live music is good as the stage is high enough to be able to seen bands while stood at the back unless you get stuck behind someone taller! It is a bit of a pain to get out as everyone has to go out through the main doors so it’s a bit of a bottle neck situation.

Still probably one of the best places to go in Sheffield for both gigs and their club nights!

T’Mill is my favourite place in Sheffield. Yeah, the sound system might not be great for live music. But the intimacy and vibe created by the small venue more than makes up for that. Yeah, it’s probably not the classiest of places. But the sticky floor just adds to the charm and gives you all the more excuse to jump around to the mix of cheese and indie music. It’s a happy place to go with courteous bouncers, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. And who needs fancy wallpaper and chandelliers for that?

I agree with the other reviewers in respect that the Leadmill is not the most classiest of venues. Drinks are expensive but they have a lot of offers on for their club nights. It’s definitely not the best gigging venue, most gigs I’ve been to there have had bad quality sound coming out the PA. Not sure whether this is down to the acoustics in the venue or just bad sound engineering. However there’s many a good night to be had there at the clubs and it hosts the best indie club in Sheffield on a Saturday night. The Leadmill is part of Sheffield history and hopefully it’ll always be on offer for a good night out.

The leadmill is a smallish venue, with two bars on either side. This venue is quite popular for hosting music events, and the size of it adds to the atmosphere. The area is quite close to the train station. It is good for a night out listening to music. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The Leadmill is a slightly sticky floored Sheffield institution famous throughout the UK music scene as a classic live gig venue for up and coming bands as well as well-known groups. It was recently host to the Channel 4 programme MobileAct Unsigned and is currently under nomination for Venue of the Year UK alongside other places including Londons’ O2. It comprises of two medium sized dance rooms, one with a stage and a small café. It has different weekly nights ranging from indie to the studentiest cheesiest pop(try the infamous, long-running Monday night ‘Shag’) and the crowds and atmosphere depend on the night. The drinks are rock bottom prices from 60p(did i just hear jaws dropping in London) but of course some of the brands are not exactly digestion friendly! It is a fun, non-pretentious and generally safe venue where taxis line up outside the door so just make sure you leave a few minutes before the heard and you’ll catch a lift home(or get down to the rail station nearby for trains across UK). To sum up, the Leadmill is a taste of Sheffield nightlife in it’s most undiluted form and definately worth visiting if you are spending any time in the north and want something a bit gritty.
