casbah, drinks can be slightly overpriced, but they do some good offers occasionally. plus the venue downstairs for gigs(unsigned bands mainly) is really good. the atmosphere is quality. all in all a good place to be.

The Casbah is an alternative venue in Sheffield and is what used to be the legendary Wapentake. It is a cross between a bar and a club. As much as my music tastes lean towards alternative music I don’t recommend the Casbah. It’s only useful on a week night when all the pubs are closing and you’re out with your buddies and seeking a late pint. In the week it’s free entry to the main bar. The bar prices are well over the top and always have been. This may be acceptable considering it’s free entry and it’s open late but at weekends it’s not free entry and the bar prices are still the same which is ridiculous. The security can also be very unfriendly and one regularly hears them shouting bigoted remarks at women passing by. The Casbah hosts live music and has to be respected for that but I’d only ever recommend going at the end of the night for a cheeky last pint when you’re passing by and too legless to get to any other boozer that’s open late!
