A Castle Rock brewery pub. Had a pint of Dark Mullein, which was light, as the pump clip suggested, rather than dark, as the name suggests. Nice place on one of the main roads north out of Sheffield.

The New Barrack Tavern is an important stop on Sheffield’s ‘Beer Valley’ trail. There’s always a great selection of reasonably priced real ales and Continental lagers on tap and in bottles. The pub’s décor is traditional and no-nonsense. The main room is a little cavernous and you can feel exposed, but there are also two smaller, more intimate rooms. There’s no juke box to spoil the mood but there is sometimes live music at weekends. During the day there’s a good selection of food. The beer garden is really just a yard with some picnic tables and could do with a bit of care and attention.

The New Barrack Tavern is a traditional pub which sells a wide range of real ales at reasonable prices. There are two rooms with the bar in the middle and also a very nice, well-kept beer garden. The staff are friendly and there is a nice friendly atmposhere inside. There is also often live music. While it is considered to be part of the ‘Real Ale Trail’, it is a bit further out of town than the others so unfortunately I don’t get there as much as I would like to.

This pub is definitely worth a visit for any fan of traditional real ale pubs. Run by very friendly and welcoming bar staff who provide a fantastic range of real ales at very good prices, the Tavern hosts live music on a regular basis which are often free to attend and always guarantee a splendid atmosphere. Split up into 2 seating areas with the bar in the middle means that if you’re not fussed about the live music you can sit in the other side of the pub and have a good time chatting. It has a nice beer garden that is well looked after. This pub can’t be recommended enough. Excellent.
